new tongue sore, worried!

Hello all, first I'll start of by saying thanks for taking the time to read this. Ok I'm 42yrs old, female, smoker, dont drink back in June 2017, I saw my dentist because a molar cracked and I had a sore on my tongue that wouldn't heal which I thought was from the molar rubbing it, the dentist was immediately worried and set me up for biopsy from oral surgeon next day, my dentist was SURE it was cancer. So got the biopsy totally took the spot off my tongue came back negative, was relieved, but now since September I have an ulcer in the same exact spot that was biopsied and I waited all these months praying it would heal and it hasn't and now I'm having hearing loss, jaw pain , and terrible headaches all on the same side as the sore, I.made an appointment for it to be looked at by the cancer hospital near me and my question is, is it possible that the first negative biopsy was like a false negative? I'm just so worried and I really think its cancer I can tell something just isn't right. Thanks in advance for any advice. Oh and my sinuses are stuffed up too on the same side.

Get your family doctore to refer you to an ENT specialist. Putting it off will only make it worse!

dear, biopsy result to be false negative is a rare occurence, and its a great relief that the biopsy result was negative. non healing of your ulcer coud be because other reasons as well and nit just cancer. the other common reasons to have ulcer are:

  • Diabetic ulcers
  • Venous-related ulcerations
  • Non-healing surgical wounds
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Wounds related to metabolic disease
  • Wounds that repeatedly break down
it is quite possible that your wound is because of one such thing or something related to it and not because of cancer. until the results are out we can hope for the best.once the new biopsy report is out  and if its negative then do undergo a ct scan or mri scan for your issues including the sinus issue.i think its an issue of poor oral hygiene which is making you miserable right now. do visit a dentist get an OPG done and get a proper treatment and you should be sorted. Good luck and keep us posted.
