In July 2016, diagnosed Stage IV with a single small met to the liver, plus a few lymph nodes in my chest cavity. Adenocarcinoma at the gastroesophageal junction, main tumor about 3 cm.

Chemo only, FOLFOX for 12 cycles.  No radiation, no surgery.  Supplemented with high doses of curcumin throughout treatment and intermittent fasting.

Complete response, no evidence of disease on PET/CT scan in February 2017.  Continued clean scans since then, latest scan was August 1, 2018.  No evidence of disease.

2 year survivor so far.

If you are still around and on the board...could you share what you are doing with the Curcumin and fasting? Any more details? Like how much of a dose of Curcumin?

I wish I had more information available when I was first diagnosed in Aug/17. With the limited info I was given and read, it appeared that chemo and or radiaTION  were only for stage III/IV cases. Obviously they're not.

Had I known more, been clearer in mind, had a partner to discuss this with (I can't begin to describe how lost and alone I was with no partner to share this burden with. In fact, my ex partner and I were battling over many things as we only separated in Oct 16.)

I mean, I had stage 1 and the team jumped right to surgery as my only option. They made a bad call as evidenced by all the stage iii/iv people here who have gone into NED without the horrible surgery.

My body is mangled, I don't know if it will ever recover to a point I can enjoy normal enjoyable days most of the time or have to suffer with odd side effects till I die.

My advice to everyone is do the miminal invasive steps available if you can, and make sure you keep your options, like surgery, on the table if the other treatments don't work.

Younger and stronger people do tend to fare much better with the surgery, though that is not always the case.

It seems like a notice that a lot of late stage III and early stage 4 patients who go through with the surgery end up with recurrences not too long after, and now they have a mangled body which is even weaker against fighting an aggressive cancer.

Some people think surviving by any means necessary is a must, that is up to the individuals and their families. I think that is  is completely stupid, for me quality of life is more important than merely surviving in a potentially bedridden state for years. I am almost glad that I am not a candidate for that horrible surgery, God already made the decision for me so theres no needless wondering.

Surgery does not guarantee survival even at the lower stages, but it does improve the odds for those who qualify for it.

Diagnosed stage 4 (T3, N2, Mx) August 2017.

Put on a chemotherapy/immunotherapy trial of Folfox +Atezolizumab, and still on this line of treatment.

Complete Response as of June of last year, and every scan since so far.

Now doing just immumotherapy and the maintenance aspect of the Folfox (5fu without Oxaliplatin).
