High Thyroglobulin levels after total Thyroidectomy

I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer that spread to the lymp nodes on the right side of my neck. This was in April 2017 after I was misdiagnosed with a branchial cleft cyst and went through surgery to remove that. About 2 months later I had the surgery to remove my thyroid and lymph nodes on the right side.

Last week I went and had the thyrogen shots and did a full body ct scan that came back negative,  but my bloodwork show high levels of Thyroglobulin which from what I understand is a sign of recurrence? I just setup than apt for a pet scan on Aug 13th.

I've been having pains in my lower back and knees. Also have a lump in my neck (left side) that comes and goes.

When was your initial I-131 ablation (RAI treatment)?

So this was the stimulated Tg at one year post ablation?

What is the Tg level?

This is my 1 year follow up.

They didn't tell me what the levels where, just that they were high.

Not sure what you mean by stimulated. I took the thyrogen shots so I wouldn't need to be off my thyroid replacement pills for 3 weeks, if that is what you are asking.

Not sure what you mean by stimulated. But I did have the thyrogen shots so I wouldn't need to stop my replacement thyroid meds for 3 weeks.

You need to now the level, it's very important.  You want to make sure you follow your Tg history and always have access your Tg history over the long haul.

The thyrogen elevated your TSH level, which is referred to as stimulated.  The professional guidelines recommend a 1 year stimulated Tg after I-131 ablation to get a picture of what's going on when the TSH is not suppressed.

It's important that you know the exact results because who knows what your medical doctor defines as high Tg.

Is it 1.0?  or is it 100?  It's important to know.

good luck!

Yes, that is significant and needs to be watched, but not necessarily recurrence.

Do you have thyroglobulin antibodies?
