We supported hundreds of people over the years and what our experience is that many treatments, from chemo to radiation therapy will cause a secondary cancer.  Many times it is not seen for some time thereafter but the threat is there. So yes, leukemia is a result of radiation.
Is the polyp malignant?  If the doctor wants to do something as invasive as surgery or radiation he must be considering it malignant.  With that I will assume you had a biopsy. If all this is true, the cancer has been seeded.
You have other options. Weigh everything and all the risks before making a decision. You can read about many of the studies down at Jesicha's Hope Athenaeum . com  The more you know the better your decision making will be.
