Have just been diagnosed with it, and had the TURbt done and cancer removed, but cancer cells also found in ureter. Urologist is proposing to remove the kidney with the ureter, although the kidney at present is fine. Am not convinced kidney has to be removed. Has anyone else had this situation?  Will be grateful for any input.

The high-grade urothelial cancer was in the collecting system of my right kidney, which was removed on 1/22.  There were 2 tumors in the kidney upon pathology report, a large & small one.  Cancer had not spread to lymph nodes.  There is now no visible sign of more cancer in my body, but oncologist says rogue cancer stem cells could have already gotten into my bloodstream.  They want to do chemo very soon.  I'm looking at alternatives, because I don't feel strong enough for a 3-month round of chemo.
