Today Oct 28 marks my two year anniversary from my last treatment. Man what a ride it has been physically and emotionally/mentality etc.... Doing fine aside from dealing with occasional throat and jaw discomfort that Varies week to week. Nothing big I want to thank all the veterans on this board for all the time and wisdom they share! Also for staying around so others can see life does go on. Y’all know who y’all are and y’all are great! I’m praying for us all daily and once again thank you! Tig

Tig,

Congratulations on making it to two year mark. 2 year is a major milestone for head and neck cancer positive for the HPV virus but both my doctors warned me to stay vigilant and continue with regular screening until 5 years.

Best of luck to you and everyone with this disease.

Tig,

Congratulations!  The 2-year milestone is a big one indeed.  My ENT/surgeon told me I was cured at that point, but my radiation oncologist said I needed to wait the five.

I have noticed on this and another site that what the ENT said is true--nearly everyone who makes it two years is out of the woods.

And as for the 5-year mark that you still need to watch for, you may be happy, as I was, to find out that they mark it from the date of diagnosis, not the end of treatment.  So, although I finished treatment in February, I was declared cured in November.

All the best,

Susan

Tig,

Two years is a huge milestone!  My Dr said that with my SCC BOT, after two years I was statistically more like to get another form of cancer than a reoccurence!  The last treatment date, I was told, starts the clock.

Congrats.

Be well everyone,

Jim,

Maybe it varies by doctor or center as to when you are declared cured.  I was diagnosed by a modified radical neck dissection Nov. 2010 after earlier biopsies were inconclusive as to cancer type.  My treatment ended in Feb. the next year.  But I was declared cured by my radiation oncologist in Nov. 2015.  He told me that was standard.

Either way, though, it's good news.

Susan
