I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around this. My ct scan came back stating 5.3 cm solid cystic heterogeneous enhancing mass with 6 mm simple cyst. Stays suspected to represent renal cell carcinoma My dr stats I’m stage 1. Do I have cancer? Or not I’m so confused I’m trying to tell people what’s wrong with me and I feel like I’m lying to them. I see oncologist next week.

I am sorry. My urologist told me that I most the spot on my kidney was most likely cancer, but that they wouldn’t know for certain until they removed it. My right kidney was removed 13 years ago. Stage 1 renal cell carcinoma. I have been blessed with all these years since. No recurrence of RCC! With the exception on stage 1 breast cancer three years ago. It is my understanding that early detection with RCC gives you s great chance of not having a recurrence or metastasis. I hope your doctor can address all your questions. Bring in a list. Invaluable information is located on the kidney cancer site online, as well as the American Cancer Society. There is also a Kidney Cancer Association site on Facebook, with many, many survivors who can support you and address your questions. If this ends up not being cancer, celebrate your blessings!

I'm sorry you are facing this diagnosis.  Calling it stage I seems to indicate that you do have cancer, but that it has not spread.

I encourage you to contact this doctor's office and ask for an explanation.  You deserve one sooner than next week.

All the best,

Susan

Thank you all. Where I’m located there is no oncologist close by I’m at least 5 hours drive. That’s why my appointment is next week. I just wasn’t sure. I just turned 40 and decently healthy.

I was told I had a mass on my right kidney back in 1990 after a misscarraige.  Was sent to a surgen who didn't want to operate just yet.  I went like that for almost 5 yearts until I couldn't work a whole day anymore I was always passing out.  Then my urologist said he would go in and take it out.  In the r corner of this mass was a cyst and they biopsied it every 6 months no signs of cancer, so when he was going to do the surgery it was the last result.  Because they didn't know for sure what they were getting into, they went in from the front my whole kidney was full of cancer and some into the urether.  Stage 1 RCCC.  Removed the kidney, part of the urether, and several lymph nodes.  That was done in 1995 was given the option of Chemo but decided against it.  So I have been cancer free for 24 years.  Had some scares along the way but nothing thank goodness.  My prayers go out to you
