Sulforaphane and prostate cancer

Earlier clinical and laboratory studies have shown that sulforaphane, a compound that occurs in signi?cant quantities in mustard, wasabi (and cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts and others) has unique and highly effective anticancer activities.

This study has shown us something really interesting - that sulforaphane has almost no activity on healthy prostate cells that have normally paired PTEN genes and full expression (functioning) of these genes.

However, if the PTEN genes become damaged or begin to malfunction only then do they become sensitive to the bene?cial effects of sulforaphane. In other words sulforaphane has absolutely no effect on normal prostate tissue and it is only when prostate cells become precancerous or fully malignant that it manifests its cancer ?ghting properties. This is an attribute known as pathological-activated-therapy (PAT) and is a rare and valuable asset when it comes to the search for bioactive compounds with therapeutic potential.


The bizarre position of the pharma-funded mainstream media, by the way, is that there is no such thing as an anti-cancer food. The official position of the FDA is that there is no such thing as a food, herb, seed or supplement that has any effect whatsoever on preventing disease. Both of these positions are patently absurd, of course, and those who attempt to defend such nonsense only discredit themselves. (Arguing that there's no such thing as anti-cancer foodsis about as silly as arguing the Earth is flat.)

In truth, anti-cancer compounds are found throughout the food supply: in carrots, oranges, celery, broccoli, grapes, nuts and more. They happen to be highly concentrated in mustard seeds, too, and typical mustard products often contain other ingredients that also show powerful anti-cancer properties.

There are compounds and substances recognized by formal medicine as having carcinogenic effects. The point of not existing anti-cancer food is that there is no food that prevents those carcinogenic effects from happening; there is food that make natural cancer developments less prone to happen, but that's it.
