Sinus cancer?

Hello, I’m hoping to get help from anyone who has ever been diagnosed with sinus cancer. My journey in as short form as I can is this: I’ve always had nasal issues all my life. Always had a runny nose as a child. Green mucus often. Had pneumonia as a child. I was a smoker. This summer I started having tinnitus. Then early September had terrible cold. Constantly blowing my nose for about 6 to 8 weeks. Since then have badly stuffed left sinus, nasal drip, left side of face and left arm numb and tingling often. Difficulty breathing to the point where I’ve been rushed to hospital by ambulance. Chest and neck will sometimes feel very tight. Head feels like it’s under water pressure at times. First ER visit they kept me for 5 days. However their focus was heart as I have one stent and they felt my heart was the issue. After an angiogram my arteries and stent were found to be clear. I had chest x-rays that did not show anything with lungs. Second time at ER they said breathing issues was probably due to GERDS which had began from being in hospital. Is all clear now. I had a CT scan on sinus area and doctor is sending me to an Ear Nose and Throat specialist in February because it showed severe sinusitis. Lately I feel weak, tired and lightheaded/dizzy. When I’m about to have a breathing “attack” the back of my sinus / throat seems all full, chest and neck get very tight, face and arm on left get super numb and tingly. Also my voice becomes very hoarse and get dry throat. I do understand that the hyperventilating can cause some of these symptoms. Oxygen levels always show good. I’m confused and have been reaching out and doing research. At 57, I’m not overweight, eat well, exercise. I would appreciate any direction or advise. Thank you

Raken,

I don't know a lot about sinus cancer, but it sounds like you could have any number of things.  Nasal polyps come to mind, as they can be nasty.  Breathing problems are not usually a sign of head and neck cancer, but your ENT visit should clear some things up for you.  Sorry it's such a wait, but that seems to be typical.

I assume that you are on sosmething for the sinusitis, and if you see any improvement at all from that it's likely an infection.

Best of luck to you.

Susan

Hello Raken,

I just got home from vacation and was catching up on some emails, etc.  What has transpired since your Jan. 6th post?  My brother had sinus cancer, so I may be able to answer some of your questions, but hopefully, your doctor has prescribed some medicine and you are all better by now.  I did find out on this site that anything with the sinuses can also be found in other cancer message boards...such as Head and Neck Cancer, Brain Cancer, or Oral Cancer (click on nasal cavity).  The Cancer Tutor videos were very interesting, so thanks to whomever posted them, too.  Like I said earlier, I hope you are feeling much better by now.

Good morning, Sorry to hear of your struggle. I hope to read more you how your diagnosis, and prognosis is developed. This sounds very similar to my story. I was treated in late Sept for sinus infection which affected my lungs. The antibiotics cleared everything but pain started soon after medication was used up. At approx 40 yrs of age, I was diagnosed with a sinus polyp, which the specialist left. I didn't think anything about it until just recently. I am now 56 years old, so much like you. Flash forward to February 2019, I now have sinus spasms and pain in the neck, cheek, and tingling down to my face to the base of my neck. Last night, while eating something, I sneezed and felt like I hurt the back of my throat. Upon inspection, I found a lump. I called my doctor to arrange a ENT specialist, and she is away. I am going to a clinic today, or may even opt for emerge department to get some answers. Much like you Raken, I have the tingling down my face and neck. The doc dismissed it in Sept as a sinus infection. I hope she is right. I will keep you posted. Be diligent with your health. Be strong!
