CEA rise during chemo

Hi,

Happy New Year 2019!

My father was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer back in July. He underwent surgery to remove 15cm of his sigmoid back in August and is currently undergoing Chemo. His CEA before his surgery was 4.2 and now, halfway through his chemo treatment, it shot up to 9. His oncologist is not very concerned saying that this could well be because of inflamation and stress but my dad is going for his CT scan next week. This has got me quite scared now because it is quite a jump. The oncologist says that unless he sees his CEA hitting around 16, he wouldn't put too much emphasis on the CEA results during chemo.

Also, being from Canada, I would like to  know how often they do CEA tests in the US for adjuvant colon cancer treatments. I heard in some cases, they do a CEA test after every chemo infusion to chart out a trend and verify the effectiveness of the treatment. I just found it weird that they don't do tht here because really, one number doesn't tell the whole story.

Thanks
