Mild Dysplasia on Followup Pap After LEEP Procedure

Hi Everyone,

So last year (mid 2018) my pap and colpo came back with mild dysplasia.   Ioptedfor a LEEP because I'm not a wait and see what happens type of person.   I have one beautiful baby girl (now 10 months) and will not be having any more children.  So I wanted to do right by her by being as aggressive as possible to prevent cancer.  Anyway so I had the LEEP done in august 2018 and i told my doctor to be very very aggressive and to get all of it.  It also came back as CIN1 mild dysplasia and I had clean margins (inner and out margins).  I had a follow-up pap 5 months later (last week).  I am heartbroken that the results are the exact same as before my LEEP.  Mild Dysplasia again!  My doctor said he's not worried at all and it just takes time for the cells to change back after the LEEP.  He doesnt think I need to be seen for another 6 months.  I'm worried that if I wait, the pre-cancerious cells will progress.

Has this happened to anyone else out there? Where their first pap after a Leep procedure showed NO changes from the pap before the LEEP?  Any thoughts?   UGH a small part of me thinks that since I am not having any more kids, and that since I'm getting a tummy tuck done at the end of the year, that I should just opt for a total hysterectomy (can be done at the same time as the tummy tuck) and be done with it all.

Hi lkemper,

All I can say is congratulations!  Your dysplasia was caught so early and you are only CIN1.  Please remember that dysplasia CAN -- NOT DOES -- progress to cancer.  Go for your 6 month check-up and, in the meantime, enjoy every moment with your baby girl.  Do not spend another minute worrying about something that may not even happen. Life is far too precious... I send you positive thoughts and a big hug...

Hi!

You could always consider working on improving your immune system. That can help kill off HPV without LEEP.

A hysterectomy can affect your sex life, so it might not be what you want to add to a tummy tuck, ultimately.

I have heard of PAPs not changing if HPV is widespread or not being controlled by your immune system. There are natural therapies that successfully address abnormal cells and help stimulate the immune system. May or may not be right for you, but write me back if you want more information.
