My daughter-in-law is 44. She is a teacher with a 6yo son. She got sick in May/2018 with severe abd. pain & months of abnormal vaginal bleeding. CT showed Ovarian Mass with fusion to Fallopian tube, Omental Caking, & Ascites. She denied cancer til late June when Gyn Oncologist told her she had Cervical Ca, then biopsy showed Stage IV Colon Ca from a leap procedure. July 2018, Colonoscopy scope could not pass more than 15cm due to tumor pressing in on colon. She was admitted & consulted with surgical oncologists. A 2nd biopsy showed Stage III Ovarian Ca. She underwent weekly chemo of Taxol & every 3wk of Carbo til Surgery in 11/18. She missed 3 treatments D/T low platelets. Surg. included total hysterectomy, Removal of Omentum & Removal of cancer cells from colon (outer wall). We were told they left a "rash of tumors" in the abd. The surg. pathology came back Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma (Primary unknown) The plan was to add Avastin to the chemo when surg. heals. Wasn't healed on 12/28, but did change Taxol & Carbo to every 3 wks, thinking Platelets would recover by then. During the 4 wks without chemo her CA-125 went up. She was hospitalized 1/15/19 for bowel obstruction & now has NG tube. Oncologist concerned that the cancer has not responded to the chemo any better. She's had a lot of wt. loss & was very dehydrated on admit to ED. Today was wk 3 & Platelets are only 89, so no chemo again! We're all worried & don't know what comes next. What is FOLFOX? I read that in a post, but we haven't heard about it. She might need TPN. I hope someone will let us know what to expect. My son thinks she's sick b/c of chemo, the Dr. said it is the cancer, not the chemo.
