Fertility and TMZ

Hello,

I have a question and I cannot find solid information online. Was hoping maybe I could at least get personal stories here.

My husband was diagnosed with AA3 in May. He had a gross total resection and is about to start cycle 7 of maintence. We were only able to bank a small about of sperm prior to treatment. We have tried 6 rounds of iui and each has failed. We are now faced with the decision to save our last vials for IVF or used the remaining for IUI.

With that said we are curious how many people were able to conciece naturally during or after treament. My husand is only 32 and I am only 31. We have one child who is 3 and we so desperatly want another.

I cannot find much on success after treatment nor can I find much on the chances of having birth defects from TMZ.

ANY info or insight is much appreciated!

Thank you

TMZ is genotoxic, so he would need to wait at least 6 months after treatment before trying. Only then it would be possible to know whether TMZ caused infertility or not, which is a possibility.

In my case, I waited 1 year after RAI treatment, since the effects of RAI take longer to dissipate. The result is the reason for my nickname...

While it's easier to tell other people to spend their resources, if it was me, I would save the last vials for IVF.

Thank you for responding. May I ask if you were able to conceive naturally or did you do IVF? I wish I could find some stats on his odds of being infertle. It would be so hard to find the money for IvF and if we knew we had a good chance he will be fertile again then waiting would be easier. It sucks that there is so little information on the subject.

My little one was conceived naturally.

As for the lack of stats, it's due to science ethics forbidding experiments that could result in harm.

The other thing about stats is that it predicts outcomes for populations, not for subjects. For instance, if stats say the chances are good or bad, but things are different for you, what matters for you is... you.
