Suddenly Can't walk well

Hi, My Dad was diagnosed with glioblastoma in May 2018, since that time he has had surgery in July to remove most of it, radiation & chemo (ended in Oct) and was doing fine. But about a 3 weeks ago (Jan 2019) he started having trouble staying focused riding a scooter (very scary) and a little trouble talking. As of the last week he has had trouble balancing and walking, he won't use a walker or wheelchair and just yells at us to get away. The past 3 days he has been falling alot and has cuts, bruises, and a black eye. Now my Mom can no longer help him shower and it is a struggle for him to get to the bathroom without falling. This is so scary and horrifying, we will see his oncologist tomorrow. Anybody been through this type of quick decline? What can we do? This is taking alot out of us.

Dear Joylu, Wow, my prayers go out to your Father. What a horrible thing for him to lose his balance. You need someone strong who can pick him up if he falls, for sure. And be patient with him, because he doesn’t realize how to deal with his decline, so he is most likely very frustrated. I am using a cane, but was on a walker in Dec.when I had back surgery. I am getting better but it still sucks having a leg go out on me unexpectedly at any time. The main thing is keep asking the doctors to help you. Bug them incessantly, because the squeaky wheel gets the grease. And give your Dad lots of love. This is probably the hardest thing he has ever had to deal with. I will send you prayers!

No problem. If you are at all spiritual, your prayers for him mean alot. Whether he survives another year or two, or just another day or two, make him happy, and comfortable. Do what he wants you to do.Think of each moment could be his last. Try your best to celebrate each moment.

I miss my Dad so much. He died when he was only 53 back in 1974, from colon cancer. However, I am Buddhist, I believe  in reincarnation. And So, I believe he is already reborn, possibly in my grandson's body.

Perhaps your Father's mission has been fulfilled and he is tired of suffering. Justdo your best.

For anyone who might one day reference this thread, here is a follow-up, my Dad's tumor started growing again very quickly. So the Doctor put him on a new treatment of medicine called "Avastin", and so far so good his balance and walking has improved with it and the help of physical therapists of course. So anyone out there with similar problems might look into "Avastin" to stabalize things.

the love of my life was diagnosed with GBM in 2010 and yes this fine today, this that and the other don't work tomorrow was very real for us. It's a nasty, nasty cancer. It's a miserable journey. I wish you the best. Connect with someone in your community that can help your Mom and Dad take care of the basics. They get angry, yes they do, but I think it comes from the realazation that things are not as they used to be and meds, treatments also and I think are the reason for the combative stuff. Your oncologist or social worker at the facility your Dad is treated at should be able to give you some direction of resources in your community or outside that can help you with some stuff. Feel your pain and frustrations..............Best wishes to you and your family.

Chemo will throw everything off. It will destroy your imuune system. be careful in public, wear masks, always wash your hands and also thr people that visit you. What kind of cancer do you have? Not being able to walk is from the chemo, it makes you very weak and if yu are not active you will lose mussel mass,, keep in touch!!
