My only choice is the biopsy with the endocrinologist for now due to my insurance. I found this article that says 1 in 4 thyroid biopsies are now done by endocrinologists. I guess if I'm not happy with the outcome I can change insurance during open enrollment this year.

There's probably also an article that says 1 in 4 FNAs are done by Genral Surgeons...like my first one was.

Not understanding the point.

If 1 in 4 FNAs are done by endos, FNAs should be able to be performed within days....not months.

If you want to sit and wait until july for a simply FNA, that is your choice.

And I cannot understand an insurance that gives a patient ZERO choices.

I have read some reviews for the doctor and they are pretty good. Several people writing the reviews say that they had a thyroid biopsy so I think he does them all the time.

All you have to do is ask.  How many FNAs do you perform a day? a week? a month?  Ask.  Don't assume...or rely on online reviews.

This is tru. It is perfectly acceptable to ask a practioner how many of a particular procedure they have done. This is your body and your journey and you don't want to learn the hard way (all the while paying for it) that the person doing it doesn't have the best skills. Your body and you need to be yor own advocate. Just call and ask a nurse or receptionist and someone will get you the answer. They are used to this question :)

Butterfly, I have no idea where you live or what insurance you have, but you don't seem to understand that not everyone has choices with insurance coverage.

This is part of the controversy in this country (USA) about healthcare; who has it, who does not, how good is it, and how it can cause bankruptcy. I am in NY and I wait long periods for everything, some worse than others, and I have had several different insurance carriers.

Yu may not understand, BUT that is the reality and in some cases why emergency rooms are over utilized.

Lucky you that you have such wonderful coverage.

What insurance do you have that Van Rad does not accept?

I have Kaiser insurance. If I go to someone outside their network it is not covered and would not be applied to my very high deductible.

Hi Shayanne,

I sympathize with the insurance troubles. It is so sad that we have a healthcare system that is so inequitable. I have struggled as a self-employed person then the high cost and deductible with my Supervisory position at a non-profit, then being layed off. The struggle is real and many who have sweet insurance through a union, state, county or government job, for example, have no clue what it is like with these outrageous deductibles and restrictions. I wish you the best.

No wonder we are told we have health anxiety!

Thanks Swifty. Even with the high deductible and restrictions I feel fortunate that I have insurance. I also worry about losing it every day.
