How was your cancer found?

Anyone interested in sharing your story? Mine is interesting - I developed jaw pain that woke me at night. I feared a dental abscess so at 3am one morning,  I started feeling around my neck for swollen glands and felt something hard near my throat. I went into work the next day and asked a coworker who is a clinician to feel my neck. She said your thyroid is enlarged, go see your primary. So I got a TSH drawn that was 5.5 and my doc wasn't impressed. I told her my coworker said my thyroid is enlarged so she felt it and said we'll get an ultrasound. Ultrasound showed a single nodule in the isthmus with all bad signs, and the biopsy was positive for PTC!

One prospective life insurance company asked for a medical report. I went to a clinician that asked blood tests and discovered I had diabetes. I was referred to an endo, that as part of her usual practice felt my neck and said the thyroid seemed enlarged, US showed a nodule in the right half. US with FNA indicated FTC.

[ This phase ends with two surgeries to remove both halves, a biopsy finding of FV-PTC and RAI ]

For years, TSH kept raising with nothing visible in US, WBS or PET-CT. At one point PET-CT was able to confirm lung metastases, with WBS confirming them to be non-RAI-avid.

In my case, my throat would suddenly seize up after starting a meal and i could swallow the food or cough it up.  It just sat there burning for 10 minutes, then it felt like a toilet flushed and it went down and I was ok.  This happened periodically and seemed to become more frequent.  I was sent for an ultra sound ( by a nurse practioner ) and the rushed for a PET scan. tongue cancer!

( unrevealed by my DR. I also had kidney cancer atthe sme time and lost a kidney 3 months later)  Was told if the tongue wasn't cured then it wouldn't have made a difference I would have been dead.   That was 9 years ago. 5 years later Esophageal cancer. My TSH has been hovering around 8.9 since 2010.  I take LEVROTYROXINE for my thyriod.

Just a note:  My mother, father, and a niece died after being mis-diagnosed by a DR.  My 1st wife's son was diagnosed for the flu and had open heart surgery 2 days later.  Same Dr. was kicked out of clinic and moved to Florida, where of all coincidences was the same Dr. who mis-diagnosed my Neice who died.  He was sued and lost and is no longer practicing.

I passed out at home due to a shortage of blood. After arriving at the emergency room, multiple tests were done to find the cause of the leak. One of these tests was a CT scan which showed nodules in both lungs. One of the nodules was biopsied and turns out I had metastatic kidney cancer. This was October 2014. I had a cancerous kidney removed in August, 2007, which was found during an angiogram to find out why I was having pain in my legs.

It's ironic, but it seems most cancers are found while treating a different issue.
