My adult son has his reversal surgery next week. He will be on a liquid diet until his bowels move and then soft diet for who knows how long. Does anyone know o have experience with juicing vegetables, etc., while on this recovery ride? Also wondering about the colon irrigation some have used to stay away from the toilet 20 times a day.

My mother had this done and it took a long time for her system to wake up.  She wasn't able to eat much of anything for a few months, just a few bites and a small amount of milk.  The home nurses kept stressing protein, so I got her some of the High Protein Boost drink.  She was only able to finish one bottle over the course of a day, but that was enough to stabilize her weight and sustain her until she was finally able to eat again.  She didn't have major issues with going to the bathroom, probably because there wasn't much food in there to pass through.  Her surgery was in late June, she finally was eating just a little more in October, and she was eating normally again on Thanksgiving.

Hopefully your son's recovery will be a lot faster than hers, but just in case he has some of the same issues, don't get discouraged.  I would say let him eat/drink whatever he feels like having, but push protein because it's supposed to help the body heal from the surgery - that's what the nurses said.  If he has trouble eating enough, I highly recommend the Boost - be sure to get the "High Protein" type, as it comes in several different varieties.
