The waiting game...

Hi all, Around 6 weeks ago I was in hospital on an unrelated matter when a 3 cm mass was found on my right kidney during an ultra sound scan. That day I was told by doctors they were unsure whether or not the mass was benign or malignant and I was sent for a CT scan the following day. After a 1 week wait, I was told that the CT scan couldn’t determine what the mass was and I was being referred for an MRI. Since then, I’ve had a horrible experience, where I’ve been left in limbo for a number of weeks, having actually never met a doctor from Urology! After making phone calls and sending letters, I was eventually sent for an MRI scan at the Beatson Oncology Centre 4 weeks later. Disappointingly, my MRI scan still couldn’t determine a diagnosis for the mass and I’m currently awaiting another referral to see a Uro-Oncologist. I’m wondering if anyone else has had this long a wait (6 weeks and counting for a diagnosis) and what other people’s experiences have been?? I’m only 28 years old and doctors who initially found the mass have said that it is very uncommon in my age group for this to be malignant, HOWEVER, the fact that we are 6 weeks down the line and still don’t know.. the worry is there! I’ve did some research online and although in my age group it is uncommon.. it still happens. Thanks

What you already started noticing is that one of the hardest challenges in managing cancer is managing your emotions. Besides doing what you are already doing regarding the mass per se, time to start working on your mind and soul.
