Hi all and especially anyone that has had this done. Happy to say it wasn’t from cancer but a rupture during a procedure. I had a oncologist thoracic surgeon that cared for me. My rupture happened on 8,2008 and repaired by emergency surgery by a general thoracic surgeon. The next 10 months were trying. I had stent inserted in my esophagus to try and dilate it so it would stay open but it partially pushed it out. I had 10 dilation all together to open my esophagus from a pin head to the max they could dilate it. My GI dr referred me caused he had done all he possibly could to GI at teaching hospital. His immediate response was I can’t help you but I know someone who might. He called the Oncologist Thoracic Dr and I saw him that day. We discussed everything and made appt to go over it further in his office with copies of my scans etc..Had the surgery in June 2009. They remove 2/3 of my esophagus and did a pull thru after removing top part of my stomach. I had gastrostomy tube from8,2008-8-2009 and a jejunostomy tube from 8-2008 -10-2009. Admitted 2x to hospital for aspiration pneumonia. I kinda of learned how to take care of my self wit the help of my med Dr. and stayed out of the ED and hospital. I have major reflux. Stress makes it worse. My favorite foods makes it worse- Italian, mexican and any spicy food. So for most part have cut them out and trying to stick to a gastroparesis did and alkaline water. I had a lot of relief for 2-3 months before having any more episodes but it let me know it was there. I don’t drink any alcoholic, carbonated, or citric drinks only water. Stop the only thing I drank which was tea back in Oct 2019. I had a major problem at end of spring 2019 upper respiratory infection LLL and bronchial. Sick for 3 months and was put on 4 courses of antibiotics before I got better. All related to refluxing. My Pulmonology Dr in Aug. after I was better did an infused sputum and prove that the bacteria in my lungs was topical of aspiration. Jan. 2020 admitted for pneumonia again r/t aspiration. In hospital 4 days iv antibiotics then home on po antibiotic. 5 days off meds in to see my med Dr for follow up not any better get worse. Ordered another antibiotic for 7days. No improvement. Spoke to my Pulmonology Dr he planned to direct admit . Admitted 2/3 and discharged on 2/6 with home iv antibiotics for 2 weeks. The refluxing has done more damage to my left lung and now I have bronchiectasis to go along with that. I also take 40 of omneprazole 2 x a day, carafate 1gm 4x a day, and tums and Maalox whenever having bad burning spells. If anyone one has any suggestions or knows of anything that can help me I would appreciate the info. By the way I always sleep greater than 45 degrees elevated. Everyone have a bless day.
