I have had every test imaginable CT MRI Hyda Scan ERCP and MRCP.  The doctors are finding a bile duct stricture in the upper interhepatic right ble duct. All my path reports and blood work show no cancer.  They are advising me to have 2/3 or more of my right liver lobe removed.  I have be to a major university for this diagnosis but liver surgury is not their specaility.  Anyone encounter anything like this??? Apparently Benign strictures are rare ????

I have a bile duct stricture inthe common bile duct.  I have had two stents inserted in the duct to stretch it.  No cancer has been found yet.  I willhave another procedure to insert one or two more stents (total 3-4) to see if the duct will allow bile to flow freely.  The Whipple surgery is being discussed, and seems drastic at this point to me.

I had severe stomach aches that only lasted 30 minutes for years until this last year, and one last 18 hrs, I turned Jaundice, and was very sick.  that when the first stent was placed....aug 2009.  I would like to know if binge drinking could cause swelling or scaring of the pancreau (sp) that could cause this stricture.  No cause can be found for the stricture.

So any help would be appreciated.  Are benign strictures really rare and any other options than more stents or the Whipple.
