Do I Need Radiation After Surgery

I just had surgery to remove cancer from my upper rectum and lower colon. The doctor informed me that none of the nearby lymph nodes (20 in total) were invaded by cancerous cells. Along with the cancer, 6 inches of my colon were removed during the operation.

I am currently undergoing chemotheraphy as a preventative measure to reduce the risk of cancer remission.

The cancer was categorised as a Stage Two Cancer, with no mestatasis and invasion of Lymph Nodes (T3 M0 N0)

What I would like to know is if localised radiation therapy is needed alongside a mild dosage (688mg of 5-fluoroucacil) of chemotherapy. Extenal radiation beams will be used and the technique to be used is Three-Dimensional Conformal Radiation Therapy (3D-CRT).

Thank you,

Mrs. M
