Breast cancer leading to liver mets

My sister-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006 and had a masectomy, 8 months of chemo and 4 weeks of radiotherapy. She was told after that she had the all clear, everything had gone well and she would take tamoxifen. Then in january this year after pain and swelling in her side it was discovered the cnacer had spread to her liver. They weren't sure why the tamoxifen didn't work. She began a course of chemo and was scanned again 8 weeks later. Unfortunatley, it had continued to spread. She began another course and until now this seems to be working. They recently put a portacath in. Now it has been discovered she has blood clots in her neck caused by the portacath so it had to be taken out and she injects everyday with blood thinning drugs. The problem is this means she is having no treatment. We're all still devastated from the diagnosis, even though it was in january and this is a major blow. Does anyone know anything about this? Also, I don't want to be morbid, but how long can people live after the initial diagnosis? secondary liver cancer seems to have a poor prognosis, is this true? I feel I need to know but I would never ask. Thanks if anyone can help!

my mom had breast cancer 12yrs ago she was told she was cancer free..... and she was until  last Nov 2008 her nipple started to bleed after a number of scans she was told she had liver cancer (small cell) and ibc.. she was given 3 to 6 mo. she has had 7 rounds of chemo... (by the way she is 77) she lost her hair but she is doing great.... she is a tough old bird..... she asked her Dr last week how long she had and he looked at her and said i shouldn't be sitting here talking to you now.... but i am! so he refused to answer her question..... 14 months later she is still here... so one really never knows the answer to your question... my mom never complains and has positive thinking to boot!! maybe that's the secret!

My brother was dx. stage 4 colon cancer 3/08 age 40. He went through chemo for a year, his powerport was put in before chemo, no problems other than always develope a fibrin sheath and they could not access it until they put in tpa for an hour. 8/09 liver mets. No one can tell you how long someone has, those are just statistics, everyone is different. My brother did lose his battle on 12/10/09, he faught to the very end.

This is an awesome forum and the more information you can learn from others going through it or that have been through, knowledge is power!!

Good luck and post often!!

I too had breast cancer and a double mastectomy in 2004 with chemo treatments.  I was cancer free until feb 2010 when a routine test showed a mass in my liver. A surgeon at sloan kettering named dr. Ronald demateo agreed to remove a large portion of liver.  He was able to consider this surgery because the cancer had spread to the liver only.  I hope that this is the case for your sister-in-law.  If it is please contact him as he is the only one in n.y. that will consider this surgery.  He is trying to prove that although the cancer has gone to the liver a person can still be cured with surgery.  If she meets his criteria then he may accept her in his case study.  Good luck to your family     i also take a vitamin drink called cellect that has made a world of difference for me.  You can get all the info about it on cellect.org or call direct at 631 584-3100  i take 4 scoops a day for cancer.    By cancersurvivor

My mother suffered with Breat Cancer in 2002 and her mastectomy was done followed by chemotherapy and radiation. then she took Tomaxofan Tab for 5 years.

She developed secondry cancer in her Lungs in 2012, doctors were hopeless but given her hormontherapy to reduce the growth of cancer cells. In meanwhile we came accross a cancer survivor who took treatment from Tibetian Doctor DR. Yeshi Dhonden, Mcleodganj,Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.

We went to Dr. Yeshi and got her examined, he gave some medicines and the results were beyond expectations. My mother started curing day by day her breathing was normal in week only. She took Dr. Yeshi's medicine for almost two years and she led absolutely normal life.

But, in 2015 Jan she again developed third cancer in liver, we got her PET SCAN her liver was infected but her lungs were absolutely clear. She is going through Chemotherapy and side by side she is taking Dr. Yeshi's medicines also. Now ultrasound report is indicating there is no sign of metastases in her liver. We are shortly taking her to Delhi for her next PET SCAN.

If anybody wants to contact Dr Yeshi Dhonden please see his website http://yeshidhonden.com/
