I also only take Gavason, is handy as I am pregnant too :)  I avoid curries at night, no matter how much I love them, I get bad heatburn if I have not eaten in a long time.

We found too empty is a problem too. We get up early for warm cereal then he goes back to sleep in the recliner. When he was getting too empty he would reflux. He also eats peeled apple before bed and it helps a lot. Reflux has been virtually non-existent with the apple.

Thanks for all your responses.  I am finding some success with eating an apple before bedtime.  It seems to have cut down the number of acid reflux attacks.  I also have a bottle of Tums next to the bed which helps.

Hi Aoife,

This is the first I read that you are expecting another child.  How wonderful.  Will keep you in my prayers for this little one too.

No other comment about the acid-reflux.  It's a bummer.  I asperate occasionally and that turns into aspiration pneumonia.  Usually happens when I sleep too soundly and slide down in the bed.  Also, it's on days I drink too much coffee.

Thank you, we are having so much fun with our little son as well.  Oh, I drink decaf latte, took me a few years to build up my milk tollerance again.  I should not eat close to bed time but it does happen.

I agree about the coffee. It makes both the reflux and the dumping worse.

My hub still suffers; never had issues before the tonsil cancer & feeding tube. He takes 20mg Nexium. I on the other hand, did not have cancer but suffer bad- I'm on 80mg Nexium a day. I haven't had it in about a month- my throat has been horrible- Prilosec is not helping- neither are rolaids.

One of the doctors gave me some free samples- I had to take 120mg yesterday.

Hi Donna,

I am almost 15 months out of surgery and doing very well. I started eating a little bit of ice cream every night and I have not had any acid reflux or bile reflux attacks. This has been since the first of August...it is now the end of November..feeling very good about that. I also have a pillow wedge that I use and I take protonix every morning 40mg...I am thinking the ice cream is coating my stomach....I think the burning in the throat is bile reflux and I know when I had that happen I would vomit and I would sit in a recliner for about an hour waiting for it to pass..it always happened sometime after 3 in the morning.  I would also get a cough after the attack that would last a few days...by the way...I also gave up chocolate...I love the stuff and was eating way too much of it....

Good luck Donna....

Carol

Carol,

I guess I have the bile reflux then, too because I get a terrible burning in my throat.  I also feel pain in my jaw and sometimes even in my ear.   I often end up coughing for several days either because my throat is so raw or maybe  due to some aspiration.  I don't eat chocolate like I did in the past either.  I allow myself one piece but only early in the day.
