Squamous Cell Neck Cancer

My father was diagnosed in March 2010 with this cancer, Stage 4, and underwent chemo and radiation which he could not complete as the radiation burns were so extreme that he was in tremendous pain.  On October 12,  2010, my father passed away.  He lost his battle.  I want to thank everyone on this board that gave me advice and support.  The only advice I can give anyone is love your family.  Love them with every ounce of love you can give until it exhausts you.  I do not feel any comfort with telling you that I gave all of my love to my Dad, right up until the last moment I was with him.  It does not help my pain now.  But it does help knowing that he knew that I loved him.  Thank you.

I am so very sorry to hear about your Dad.  This is such a nasty disease; it makes no sense that some come out of it unscathed while others do not survive.  It is not fair.  My thoughts and prayers are with you!   Hugs and prayers!

Jenn, I am so sorry he didn't make it through the treatments so he could have been cured. My prayers are with you and your family. I had stage 3 Sguamous Cell Neck Cancer located at the base of my tongue and lymph nodes on right side of neck. I was in shock and so scared, but I have five beautiful grandchildren and I wanted to live for them! If you ever need to talk or anything, I am here ok! Brenda

Sorry for your loss, so so sorry. I lost my father too, after it came back the 2nd time and had spread.  It came back the same time, that I was fighting mine for the first time.

Abut 2 months into the treatment I wanted to give up, since my mouth and tounge was so sore.  Oncologists let me take a day off, and I was back at it, and forced myself to finish.  4 plus years later, I'm doing good, dealing with new normals.

Was he a smoker? My husband diagnosed in December 2009 stage 4 Squamous Cell . It has not been a good road to go down too. He is back on a feeding tube for life. The radiation has done so nuch damage. His teeth are falling out. He never smoked, or drank. He was healthy, a runner and age very well.
