Has spread to the lining of the heart.

My mother has stage 3, small cell lung cancer that has spread to lymph nodes, and is now in the lining of her heart. She is having a horrible time breathing. They say it is because the lining of her heart is filling up with fluid. She has had fluid drained already, and is now in the hospital waiting to have a 'window' put in to drain the fluid constantly. Is this the end stage?? Does anyone know what comes next? She is on an experimental drug... Are there any alternative treatments we can get for her to help?? Also, any information on prostate cancer (which my dad is fighting at this time...started radiation last week) would be appreciated. Thank you...Tammy

I am sorry to hear about your parents. I recently lost my uncle to cancer (the same kind your mom is going through) this past Monday. It took the doctors 5 1/2 months to find out that he had cancer. My Uncle had four chemo treatments and told my Aunt no more. And now my grandfather has colon cancer. I wish I knew more to help you but I will offer my prayers for your family.

Danell-- Thank you for your prayers...I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I will pray for your family also. Did your uncle's cancer spread anywhere else?? Was it in the lining of his heart?? I have never heard of it spreading to the heart before. My mother has surgery last week to remove the lining of her heart. But they found tumors on her heart. So now they have given us only weeks. Thank you for your reply, Tammy

I am so sorry to hear this. I have stage 4 ovarian cancer and have been off chemo for 5 months. I was told last week that I have to start chemo all over again. This time either Doxil or Gemzar. I have been having problems breathing lately and had a echo done. I saw the cardiologist. I have fluid on my heart now. He wants to repeat the echo Oct. 6th and I will see him again on the 7th. It was confirmed in my CT scan too. I would be interested in what your mom had to go thru in case I am in the same boat. I believe you can never know too much. Thanks for sharing and my best to you.

Shel A, I am so sorry to hear of your cancer. My mother had surgery and they removed the lining of her heart...which, gave her more time, but because of the spread of the disease, Could not stop the cancer. My mothers cancer was spread through out her lymph nodes early on, and she had tumors on her heart, and through out her chest... She was on heart medications, and meds to help with the secretions. I would have any surgery they say may help...We had to fight for my mothers heart surgery, but it made her feel more hopeful, so it was worth it. Have you looked into herbal and alt medicine?? I believe in checking out all options... You have my prayers. My mother lost her battle on May 24th, and she fought till the end. But please, remember, every person is different, and I pray for remission of your cancer... God bless you in your struggle... Tammy

I am so sorry to hear about your mom. Chemo killed my mom 21 years ago. I don't take that very lightly to this day. It says it was a heart attack but it was the chemo that damages the heart. She died at age 48. I was given 5% chance to amke it for a year and now they downed that 50% too. I am looking into other forms. Went to a seminar Saturday for Alivizatos therapy that sounded quite interesting. I talked to my cancer Dr. today and I asked her about foods and she told me to eat whatever I want that it will not make a difference. I was told that before too. I am getting more and more confused. I have come to the conclusion that they are just worring about quality of life now. Not quantity too. Hope you are doing well. Will keep you and your family in my prayers. Prayers do wonders.
