Well, it's a start.  I really think this entire VA nightmare that has affected soooooo many/tooooooo many of you brave men and women has shaken it/them to the core.  I am hoping that issues that have received negative responses to in the past (and currently), will be reviewed with fresh eyes and somthing gets done.
Thanks for this bit of information and sharing it with everyone.

Love, hugs and prayers to and for all of you and yours.

dusty and all....

I haven't given up the fight I took on for you all 4 years ago, although I do get quite discouraged at times.   I sent out e-mails to different publications for and about Vietnam era Veterans.   I got one reply from the DAV.  That was a huge reply though.   The gentleman that replied asked me to call him, so I did.   He FINALLY told me something I'd been asking everyone for for 4 years.   What "numbers" are the VA looking for regarding AO & SCC.   He told me that they take the number of you all who have it that were exposed to AO, and compare it with the general population that weren't and see regarding any diagnosis....Prostate Cancer and SCC, etc, etc, etc.    He told me that there are more civilians with SCC than you all....where as there are more of you who've come down with Prostate Cancer and the other illnesses on the Presumtive List, than the civilian population.    He says that they (The VA, and all the doctor's/researchers) really are trying to find the thread to tie this in there too.

I was given a case a while back that the claim originally had been denied and then upon appeal had been overturned and approved.  That case is Rye vs Principi.   That's one, but do any of you know of any others.    This gentleman at DAV wants to know of them all so he can look in to it.   IF he can put together a case on that, he wants to fight for you all and get this on the Presumptive List.

Thanks for all your encouragement and help.   I also have a Hopeful for Montana Senate who is looking in to this also.  No...he's not kissing a baby or anything....He is a GOD fearing person who feels what's wrong is wrong.   He met both my hubby and myself at our VFW State Convention and we had a couple of good lengthy conversations.

Love and Hugs to you all.  Hang in there and know you all are in my thoughts and prayers and my heart.

From Montana which is quite green right now.

Jerry,

It is my pleasure and my honor to be the voice for you all where ever I can be heard.  I wish I was rich and could afford to fly to D.C. and bug Congress, the President, Dr. Jill Bidin, and yes I would be seeing her as the Doctor she is.  BUT since I can't get back there for now at least.....I will write letters, e-mails and talk to as many as I can in different fields.

You my dear friend are not FORGOTTEN....nor will you ever be to many of us.    What you, my hubby and toooooo many others are though are Ugly Stepchildren of this GOVERNMENT...who don't want to admit they used chemical friendly fire and put you all in harms way while trying to wipe out our "enemy".

You, Dusty and the rest keep me going, so please touch base with me once and a while to let me know I'm not doing this in vein.

Love and Hugs from me and mine here in Northeastern Montana.

Jacki,

Thank you for the update and also for your continued fight on our behalf. What the DAV person told you is correct, we are compared to the general public and the results are determined every 2 years by a Board in DC. I have contacted a lady whose name was published here years ago. She was not much help, so I said have a nice day and ended the conversation.

Now, if the person in the DAV wants to get some numbers, all he has to do is go to the VA Board of Appeals site. Type in the Key words, Agent Orange and the Cancer he wishes to see the results for. I just did it quickly and for Throat cancer there were 1476 claims, Tonsil cancer- 643 claims, Base of Tongue-626 claims. This search took all of 5 minutes and the range is from 1992 to 2014.

I have and also Slowlane has in the past given information on claims that have been won by the Veteran and the Military Organization that represented them. Although different cancers are not on the list, each Veteran can put in a claim and when Denied can turn around and Appeal the results. It is a long process but claims can be won if "Expert Opinions" are given by the Doctors in favor of the Veteran.

I did read a claim by a Veteran claiming he had cancer from Agent Orange and served in Vietnam to find he never was in Vietnam as he stated. So, cases like that hurt the true ones that file.

Here is the link to the VA Board of Appeals site.

http://www.index.va.gov/search/va/bva.html

Type in the wording that you want to search for, you can search by each year or click on the main check box and get the results for all the years listed.

I am posting this not only to you to pass on to your contact, but basically for any Veteran that is interested in doing some research on their own prior to filing a claim.

Again, thank you for what you do for us Veterans

My Best to You, Your Family and Everyone Here

Four years ago in July, I had my left tonsil removed along with many lymph nodes because of squamous cell carcinoma. Thanks to many prayers and to God in Heaven, I am doing very well. Had my last check up on June 8th, 2006 and everything looks just fine. Four years and doing GREAT! I am now looking for any veterans out there that may have had the same kind of cancer and were in Vietnam and have applied for compensation benefits from the Veterans Affairs Department. I have just applied, but my Service Officer said that I should expect to be denied the first time and then we'll put in an apeal. Has any one else received benefits from the VA for tonsillar cancer? And if so, can you give me any advice that might help me. I'd really be thankfull for any information that would help me in dealing with the VA on this subject.

I'VE BEEN CANCER FREE TWENTY EIGHT YEARS... THANK GOD. IN 1986 I WAS DIAGNOSE WITH SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA... MY DOCTORS ALL THINK AGENT ORANGE WAS CAUSITIVE... HOWEVER, (VA) HAS YET TO MAKE THE SAME CALL. AS A RESULT OF BEING EXPOSED TO AGENT ORANGE IN 1968... MY HARD PALATE (ROOF OF MY MOUTH) HAD TO BE REMOVED... IN ADDITION A BONE REMOVAL FROM MY UPPER GUM - APPROXIMATELY THREE INCHES. I HAD TO UNDERGO SEVENTEEN YEARS OF RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY. THE VETRAN ADMIN - DENIED MY CLAIMS... AS WELL AS MY APPEAL - AFTER GOING TO WASHINGTON... HOWEVER, THEY STATED IF I OR THEY GET MORE PROOF - MY CLAIM WILL BE REOPENED. THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS...FIGHTING THE SAME BATTLE AS WE ARE. THE BEST INFO I CAN GIVE...TRUST GOD,PRAY, BE THANKFUL YOU'RE STILL HERE... AND DON'T GIVE UP THE FIGHT. AGENT ORANGE WAS SPRAYED - WE HAD NO PROTECTIVE COVER... HOW CAN THEY THEY NOT UNDERSTAND THAT AIRBORNE CHEMICAL(AGENT ORANGE) NOT ENTERING OUR NOSE AND MOUTH. DON'T GIVE UP... KEEP THE FAITH... ALL MY BROTHERS ARE IN MY PRAYERS.

If you have been watching the hearings on Capitol Hill, the whistleblowers, the corruption, the lies you will finally realise that the VA is not on anybodies side but thier own.  Millions of dollars thrown away on upper level staff to award them for making false numbers.  No awards given for helping Veterans.  Hopefully they will hang themselves with thier arrogance.

You're right !!! this is to provoke thought; Back in the early nineties - when the late Secretary Brown was director of (VA) I had written a letter to him... Stating that it appears as if the Vetrans Adminstration want us to die off or give up. Remember what happen to the World War Two Vetrans and Radiation... The Government knew about the effects of radiation... However, it took over twenty years before any compensation was paid... And at that time - the majority had died... Due to radiation poison. We have to Trust GOD - and never give up.

New research from the American Cancer Society.  http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/cncr.28961/abstra

Hopefully the VA will rethink their position on Agent Orange & squamous cell cancer after this research.
