Cyberknife on lung tumors

Greetings,

I am the caregiver for my wife who was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer last October.  Thank God, she was tested and proved positive for the EGFR mutant and has been taking Tarceva since Dec 22, 2010.  The results have been really good as she has changed her eating habits, and taking all sort of other supplements from the naturopathic doctor.  Also part of her treatment was to have the Gammaknife (SRS) on her two lesions in her brain.  Recently, we went in for a followup on her on her brain and there is a faint scar of one and absolutely no evidence of the other.  In the discussion with the neurosurgeon, he reviewed her patient history and saw that her lung tumor SUV was only 1.2 and her T2 bone cancer was 3.4.  He suggested that we do cyberknife on both.  He said it would be a cure rather than the inhibition of the cancer cells to grow.  I am skeptic, not about the killing of the cancer cells but does anyone ever get cured of stage IV?  Needless to say, my wife was very excited and thought this would mean the end of the side effects of Tarceva.  And if this cancer ever showed up again, she could restart the Tarceva.  I am going to write our oncologist and ask him what does he think, but I am very interested in any one else's experience or knowledge on cyberknife on lung tumors.  Thanks and may God bless and comfort all on this message board.

Ernie
