Need no more trace dose of radiation?

Hi everyone!  It's been awhile but I have a question.  It's been 2 years since my operation and now the doctor says that the newest treatment after two years (first year showed no thyroid left over and no tissue left anywhere else) is that I only need an Ultrasound of the thyroid...no body scans needed.

Mayo Clinic advised it was a waste of money and time for the patient as well as expensive.  So...now he only wants me to take the Throgen shots and an ultrasound.  Don't need to go on the LID diet either.  What's the point in taking the Throgen if I'm not going to take the tracer dose of RAI? And no low iodine diet? I'm very nervous about this whole thing. Has anyone got any info on this new post op treatment?  Thanks.

Hey there,   I also have only have ultrasounds and bloodwork done.  I had the thyrogen shot as well after one year and then ultrasounds every two years.  I didn't have to on LID diet either.  It has been 3 years so I had an ultrasound last year and they have scheduled me one for next year.  I was uncomfortable as well and wish I was getting something else done but they don't do it.  I guess the bloodwork is supposed to detect anything else.

My endo monitors me through ultrasounds and PET scans; not tracers.  I'm very curious about the use of thyrogen though.  I've never had thyrogen for either my PET or US.  The WBS will show uptake; existing cells but not necessarily the existance of cancer.  The US and PET is what detected my reoccurences both times.  But never with the use of thyrogen.  The LID wouldn't be used because that's only so your body is hungry for iodine and aids in the maximum uptake of RAI.  If you're not having RAI then the LID diet is not needed.
