hi

my sister had her whipple in jan 2010

she had returned to work after 1 year as a nurse, and was doing really well

we went on holiday for the second anniversery as we have done the year before 3 sisters and mum and had a great time

the following day after arriving home she collopsed in her house, scans, tests, xrays, more scans, large absess in her liver, emergancy surgery to get it drained,  finally a biaopsy after that cleared up, its returned in her original surgical site, stomoch and liver

she has had 5 days of radiotherpy to her stomoch 5/6 weeks ago, has an appointment on the 31st of this month to see if chemo is viable?? they had to wait on the swelling from the radiotherpy to go down before they could get a clear scan

she is still in alot of pain, has a nurse coming in every week as somebody to talk to as such and making sure her pain meds are all still okay

surly this can not be just all they can do has anybody else experienced a reacurrance in several places and been still allowed to get chemo? even a combo

she is only 42 and willing to try anything, her lads voice still hasnt broken, she isnt ready to leave us yet

is it that i am not accepting this or is there still options to try

please if you can help me here with answers before she goes to see the oncologist i would appriciate it

clare xx

hi Tom

thankyou for your quick reply

surgery is no longer a option for my sister, they say it would be too much for her body to cope with

chemo is her only option but we have been left hanging as such till the next appointment to see if the radiation has helped her stomoch, if it has worked, which i think it has as she can eat solids, she still has her liver and pancrease reacurrance

i know people say quality over quantity but she is willing to try anything

we are in the UK so you cant get a second opionion, we cant get her medical notes like you can abroad to find a oncologist that is willing to try anything

i just feel that the nurse that is coming in is preparing my sister for the end when chemo hasnt even been discussed yet?

i know its not about me but am i in denial here? is there any chance

thanks clare

Hi Clare.  My husband was diagnosed is 2009 with recurrence (mets to both lungs) found in December 2010. He has been on Folfirinox treatments ever since and is doing well all things considered.  His latest scan showed his tumors had shrunk by about 50%.  Aside from being a little tired, he is enjoying life and still getting out to walk, bike ride, or whatever he wants to do.  There are most certainly options for your sister.

Keeping you all in my prayers.

thankyou all for your replys

My sister is wanting to fight this as much as she physically can, her appoinment to see about chemo isnt until the 31st of this month, they keep saying they have to wait on the swelling for radiotherpy to go down before the can get a clear scan again and to see if the radiotherpy has helped

i was kind of surpriced it was only 5 sessions to be honest over the 1 week

she has been starting to get the yellow ting again and today incredibly itchy, i know what this means but my mum has said its a heat rash?

my sister knows too and has taken to her bed in incredible pain, the morphine isnt working any more, its just making her drowsy, see and hear things

think i will leave it till monday and try and get her on her own i dont think she can afford to wait till the 31st, she says she can feel it inside her which is dementing her, she had a coughing fit and i had to hit her back so she could catch her breath and there is now a lump coming out of her spine/back

its just all happening so fast

Friday she had to go into work to sign the paper work to officially retire, 17 years working in the same ward as a RMN and her colleges didnt know it was her and voiced it which didnt help

thankyou all for replying, holding on to hope
