Blocked Tearducts

Readying myself for surgery for bilateral blocked tear ducts. I have been hoping for a miracle...that they would clear up and be "normal" again on their own. No such luck. I have waited a year and a half, and believe the damage done by the RAI for THYCA, and the suppressed TSH are responsible. I am looking to hear from others who have had surgery that goes through the outside of the nose....on each side...and has a stent or glass tube put in to create a duct that works....please tell me how it went for you, and was it a success. Any tips or feedback would be more than appreciated. Thanks. BJ

I'm just having that for the second time!!! I have 90%-95% blockage which means I just BARELY qualify for surgery. I got a few years of it not being so bad, but i recently had a sinus infection that spread to my eye and now I have a constant infection--not even tears anymore just pus. eww. So, now I'm getting ready for my second surgery.

The other option for this time was to remove a piece of bone from my perfect little nose, and insert a pyrex "container" to collect tears but I'm too big of a chicken for this. And, I sneeze, a lot and it's very rare, but my allergist told me he's seen a case where it shot out of someone's nose (no joke) and they had to have a repeat surgery...so I'm not putting myself through this!

Just from what I remember is that this will be a little uncomfortable, you may have pain and bruising, blood might drain down your throat, but it's an outpatient surgery usually, so you can go home right after! (not in my case because i decided to get this done during my second lymph node dissection which was a HORRRRIBLE idea!)

Good luck to you!
