PICC LINE

Can anyone fully explain what it is like to have a PICC line inserted and how they feel it helped them if it did. Or if it was not suitable for you. What do they do and how does it feel to have this done.

Thanks

Hi, so sorry you are having problems.  I had a PICC Line inserted and although it was scary; because I had never heard of one before, it was really no big deal.

A special nurse put mine in; she ran the line  through a vein in my arm to nearly half way across my chest on the left side.

Every day, I was hooked up to a bag of antibiotics that was very strong; it went through the line and and entered the major blood flow.

This line was left in for several weeks; then the doctor removed it during an office visit.

I hope you do well with yours.

Prayers and blessings,

B

I have had a Picc Line on more than one occasion. My experience with Picc Lines is it wasn't much worse than getting an IV. I had it placed in my arm above the elbow, they used a topical to numb the area, it was done by a nurse and I recommend it to anyone who is a hard stick or is going to have to be stuck several times, I was able to have my blood draws done thru the picc line, all antibiotics and it is far better than being stuck multiple times. So don't worry , no big deal and you will be thankful that you did it.

I have had a PICC line inserted 4 or 5 times over a 4year period. I was given a local anaesthetic in my arm prior ro inserting the line. I would rate the procedure as uncomfortable rather than painful, however it has the big advantage in that the line is just uncapped and plugged in for chemo or a blood test rather than an injection each time. I would n't hesitate to have a PICC line if recommended by your oncologist.

Could luck with your treatment

Hi,

I had a PIC line for 6 weeks while I was going thru radiation.  The cancer drug from the PIC line enhances the effect of the radiation.  Depending on the drug they are giving, the type I was having 5-FU (I think), this drug was reacting with the adhesive of the dressing over the PIC line.  By the 5th week of my radiation, I had developed an allergic type reaction and had to go daily(instead of weekly) for them to change the dressing on the PIC line.  A Dr. inserts a line into a vein in your arm above your elbow (try to get them to place itnot too closeto the crook of your elbow) mine missed the first time and had to cut into a different vein as he spoiled the first one. A numbing agent is used.  I doesn't really hurt.

Good luck
