fxchopper,  Understand your situation and that was a good rant on the VA.  Thanks for showing how hard it is to deal with the VA, the general public needs to know.

This thread is on Agent Orange Neck Cancer.  Were you in contact with Agent Orange?  Respectfully,  Slowlane

PopPot,  I can't figure this system out.  Pllease pass this to Dave and Slowlane if you know how.

Today I had a conversation with a Dr. Pai who has done much HPV cancer research at Johns Hopkins.  She does not know of any evidence showing a direct connection between AO and cander above the larynx or of AO and HPV.  She suggests, however, that the fact that AO degrades the imune system suggests that it increased the likelyhood of contracting both HPV and cancer.  I have not started researching whether this argument can be found in any of the past claims.

dlfraserxx,

Some time ago,(June) it appeared that the Doctors didn't have a diffinite answer for the location of your cancer. Unfortunately, each case is decided on it's own merit and proof presented to the VA Office for decisions.

Basically, throat or mouth cancers are not listed as connected to Agent Orange other then what falls under Respiratory Cancers-Cancers of the Lung, Larynx, Trachea, and Bronchus. Tonsil or Base of Tongue are not included, but on a individual basis, have been Granted as connected to Agent Orange when the Veteran and Advacates ( Veterans Organizations Service Officers or Lawyers) have presented "Expert Opinion" on behalf of the claim.

It is a long hard road for anyone that does not have the backing of Doctors willing to write a letter in support of the Veteran after all these years. They (the Doctors) are out there, they may rank in the spectrum of slim and far in between that will actually put their names to a letter in support of the damage Agent Orange does to those that have served so many years ago.

Many of the Veterans took up unhealthy habits smoking and drinking heavy during and after their time in the Service. If you search the VA claims, you can find some cases that the Veteran was a smoker and still was granted service connection to the Agent Orange. They generally had "Expert Opinions" written in their favor by their Doctors.

Yesterday, you brought up HPV. Is this now in the equation?

My Best to You and Everyone Here

Correction on my part for post above. I wrote --Unfortunately, each case is decided on it's own merit and proof presented to the VA Office for decisions----

I should have stated it as Fortunately. Unfortunately, it takes a long time for each case to be viewed this way, but it is necessary to make sure it is done correctly, even with that said, mistakes happen.

PopPop,

You are right, they never found my primary tumor.  They strongly suspect the base of the tongue, however, because I’m positive for HPV.  I thought I had mentioned that – sorry.  I go in a couple weeks from now to have a piece of my toung removed.  Just a red spot that they discovered and biopsied -- it is not cancer but it is something that can turn into cancer.  Nothing else new here

Hello fellow aos

I no longer consider myself as a victim of the vietnam experience, no longer a victim of agent orange but am a victim of the veterans administration. After 4 1/2 years and expert opinions i am still waiting with an attorney. Reasons for denial is that i was sprayed with ao and estimated a 90 day period. The reasons for the va denial was that they needed to time frame within 60 days. I am almost five years out of treatment and am cancer free today. No thanks to the va. I was lucky to have a good health policy at the time. If i had depended on the va i would be long gone and the va would be richer. The va calls me persistant. I would rather call it annoyed. The government is good at promises and even better at breaking those promises. I still keep my old t-shirt with a pelican trying to swallow a frog. The title is "never give up!"

Deny, Deny, Until they die.........

I'm in your same boat Bruce.  Hope I live long enough to get my appeal heard.  Looks like it takes about 6 years.
