At what stage of advanced prostate cancer does blood appear at the end of urination? This is a new development for us. Initial surgery was 26 December, 2005 and dr. said it  has now metastized since October 2012. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you kindly.

Did your husband ever have salvage or any other form of radiation treatment? I ask because radiation treatment can cause 'radiation cystitis'. This condition severly weakens the blood vessels in the bladder and causes bleeding. It usually manifests itself a number of years after radiation therapy. In my case it started back this October, quite severly and caused considerable worry. However a susequent visual inspection showed it to be 'radiation cystitis'. There are a number of treatments available but it can also eventually clear up itself. Hope this is of some help.

I'm not usually in this forum, but saw your message and wanted to make you aware of the fact that it may come from the kidney. My husband had kidney cancer and that's how it presented.

Don't want to alarm you, but I wish I had been more pro active in the beginning. Mention it to his doc.

In 2007 I found out I not only had  advanced prostate cancer I had a heart condition as well Doctors told me The prostate can  was  metastasized every where and with my heart condition treatment opion were very limited so I never had the surgery Iremember I did have blood in my urine though as my prostrate was so swollen with cancer it was half way in side my bladder. I was in so much pain I would only sleep for a few hours at a time  All my specialist Doctors  could offer me was palliative care. in 2008  I read about how a change from a high carbohydrate  diet to a complex carbohydrate  diet can help  with cancer.  and that there are drugs that can stop metastasise things like ascorbate can halt cancer metastasis I went to the local super market and bought a bottle of  1000mg BIO Vitamin C I started  taking 2000mg of BIO vitamin C three times a day with meals The diet was the hardest to do I had to stop all bread and sugary food products. for a while I started having vegtables with every meal. The problem was I was not use to haveing a lot of vegtables at first it was realy hard to get down. but I manage after about two weeks I notice I had less pain and I was sleeping though the night.  Im on other things now. I was told last year  Im in remision but back then this did help.

Dear RJ,

Thank you for sharing your journey with us; what a blessing that you are in remission at this time. My husband has, somewhat recultantly changed his food choices and, you are right, he does notice a change in his energy level and sleep. We have met with another doctor, since I last posted, and were informed that the blood in the urine, is an expected side effect of the all of the radiation. So, we will continue on and see what happens next.

Nancy
