Armour Thyroid, anyone?????

I am three years out since my TT.  I have gone up down and all around with "how I am feeling." I switch between 125mcg and 137mcg of Synthroid, but I am sick and tired of feeling "cold" all the time, and just not feeling "right." I have been reading on line about a woman named Gail who has a blog. In it she cites chapter and verse about the benefits of using Armour or something called Westoid, which both are natural, dessicated gland...I believe Forest Labs makes Armour. Anyway, she talks about the T4, T3, T2, T1 and other elements present in the "real stuff." Some people cannot assimilate T4 into T3, and blood serum lab tests do not tell the whole story. They do not prove what is actually inside the cells... I am going to try to get my endo to either switch me, or supplement my Synthroid with Armour. Anyone else with any info, please add...also, a while back, I thought a read something about a formula change in Armour that created havoc amongst its users... anyone know about this? Also, is Armour in short supply? I am in the Albany NY area. Does anyone know of a reputable doc who uses Armour????  How about the dose? Does it go by weight? Thanks. BJ

give it a try!  most likely, can't be any worse than how you feel now.

yes, i have read (years ago?) there was some manufacture change, yada-yada, on armour.  i think years ago...

if armour works for you, great!

if not, look into hypoparathyroidism.  damage to the parathyroid can leave many a thyroid-removed person in a great deal of pain, suffering, and just not feeling right.

I am eleven years post TT and like you did not feel right for a number of years so my endo put me on Armour. This did have a positive impact and for the first time post-op I felt like I had some energy. However, after a few years on this I was convinced by another endo to come off Armour due to the fluctuations of dose from tablet to tablet. My readings stabilised but my energy did not dip either. I feel that the Armour gave me a boost and put me on the right track but the confidence of the correct dose each and every time exceeds the short term gain. Good luck in your choice.
