Just 5 days ago my 25year old baby brother was diagnosed with Lung Cancer. He went into the ER for what we though was the flu and pneumonia. A coupe days later the doctor announced that they found an advanced and rapidly growing tumor. He has no medical insurance and is currently being cared for in a county hospital. They are giving him morphene and oxygen around the clock. The Biopsy has been sent to Stanford medical center for confirmation of type and stage, we're told we have to wait for 12 days. I've never seen my brother in so much pain, and its all so sudden. We don't know what to do and we don't even know how we're going to afford treatment once the doctors figure out what to do. We need help, and I don't know how to get it.

I can't say specifically for drug treatments for lung cancer, but most of the major drug manufacturers do have assistance programs in place that you can apply for that will make your payment next to nothing or free. You do not have to be at poverty level to qualify. Please check with his doctor when treatment is decided, go to the manufacturer website or google the drug name along with "patient assistance". (My DH had kidney cancer and the drugs were outrageous at approx $10,000 per month. We are not weathy or poor but we qualified. We wound up paying nothing for one of them and $100 per month for the other.) Best of luck and my sincere sympathy to your family for having to deal with this.

you need to go to needy meds DOT org.  Okay, I had to type it out that way because otherwise this board would not have posted my reply.   But that is the place to start.  You type in the drug you need, and it takes you to the manufacturers and you apply with them.

Besides that, you must talk with someone at the hospital to find out what sort of assistance your brother qualifies for.  The hospital should have someone on staff to help you.  They are knowledgible in what is available for your brother, and while he's in the hospital is the best time to talk with the.

I am so sorry your brother is going through this, and I shall keep you all in my prayers.  God bless you for caring for your brother.  Peace to you,

Byrd

How is your brother doing.  My husband was diagnosed with lung cancer at 27 in July 2012.  We are at UC Davis Cancer Center in Sac.  It's really difficult to connect with other young adult cancer patients, especially with lung cancer.  My honey has had all of his right lung removed and a partial on the left.  It might be good to connect him with your brother.  He has created a lot of positive experiences out of connecting with and sharing stories with other guys his age also fighting cancer.
