My fathers journey with alternative treatments

Hi,

I just wanted to narrate my fathers journey with cancer and our personal experience with alternative treatments.

Background

My father was first diagnosed with Stomach cancer in 2004 and whilst it was a tremendous shock to us we were a bit ignorant about the cancer (which probably helped us at that time). Anyway, he underwent surgery followed by chemotherapy and radiation treatments.  He was lucky to be a stomach cancer survivor and made changes to his diet and lifestyle (gave up smoking).  He was then diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2007 and again underwent surgery and recovered from that successfully.

Bile Duct Cancer

To our horror he was diagnosed with Bile Duct cancer in March 2012 (albeit he did revert back to a more unhealthy lifesyle in 2011, which included alcohol, meat and fried foods).

In April 2012 the doctors put a self expanding metal stent to alleviate issues of bile flow and subsequently when his condition improved a bit looked at the possibility of surgery. However, once on the table the surgeon decided that surgery was not possible.  The doctors attending to him had mentioned a prognosis of 3 to 6 months to me.

Without surgery my understanding is that conventional medicine does not offer many solutions and quality of life was a key consideration in our decision. Therefore, as a last resort we turned to alternative medicines.

Our Journey with Alternative Medicines

I spend my time between Australia and India. My focus last year in April was entirely on finding him the best alternative medicines that are available (and with some body of knowledge behind them).

I narrowed down my options to the following

1) Professor Chris Teo from Malaysia who runs CACARE

2) Natural Supplements

3) Ayurveda treatment from DS Cancer research in India.  Albeit I started Dad on the Ayurveda in Sep 2012 more as an insurance policy.  He was already feeling better before then.

CACARE

This is run by a botanist in Malaysia called Chris Teo and he has had great success in healing people (he doesnt believe in a cure) with cancer and Dad has his herbal teas on a daily basis. Protocol is provided by Chris.  Also, he is very focussed on diet and red meat, fried food, dairy, alcohol and processed sugar are definitely not allowed.

Natural supplements

Protocol noted below

1) IP6 Gold powder from Dr Shamsuddin (1heaped scoop in water twice a day before food)
2) Graviola from now foods (1 tablet twice a day from now foods)
3) Zymactive ( 1 tablet before meals 3 times a day)
4) Curamed by Europharma (1 tablet of 750mg twice a day after food)
5) KyoGreen powder in the morning with water
6) AHCC powder from now foods (1 teaspoon on an empty stomach twice a day with water)
7) Dr ohhirras professional plus probiotics twice a day on an empty stomach
8) Livatone plus (1 tablet three times a day with food)
9) Olive leaf extract glycerite from now foods (1 dropper twice a day on an empty stomach)
10) Pomegranate extract ellagic acid (tablets to be had at the same time as graviola)
11) Chia fiber to be sprinkled on cereals or food in the morning
12) Udo's oil spread on bread twice a day
I order my supplements from iherb.com and they are especially good with international delivery.  If you have never used before then you can use AHU812 as a referral code to get a discount on your first order.  The only supplement that they do not carry is Livatone Plus and I order that directly from Dr Cabot's website (I get the US mix with the selenium and not the Australian mix).

DS Cancer Research

They appear to have treated a large number of patients and they provide you with Ayurveda based supplements which are shipped on a monthly basis. As mentioned previously, we started this in Sep 2012 and at that point my father was already stable.

Dads current situation

My father has a good quality of life (90% of any one of us) and apart from the occasional infection due to the stent, his blood reports (tumor markers have remained down and LFT is mostly in normal range) and scan on his 1 year anniversary has also provided a clean bill of health (i.e. scan said stable disease).

The future is always uncertain but I really wanted to share my personal experience with everyone who might be struggling with this disease and wish you all the best.

Also, my understanding is that the natural supplements would not have been any different if he had liver cancer instead of bile duct cancer.

Hello rb122,

Very interesting information. Did you get all this information through your own research or did you get help and if so, who helped you.

I appears all this alternative treatment are being done prior to any surgery related to the BDC. I'm sorry the surgery was aborted. This as you may know is not the best.

You are some what correct. My wife had surgery and we battled this cancer for over 7 years. But once it started to spread there was no stopping it.

Again thanks for all the info.

Leonard,

The information for the natural supplementation was based on a combination of my own research and discussion with a few people who have tried some alternatives.

I have always been a sceptic about trying anything natural but I guess when you have your back to the wall you do consider every avenue.

My only advice to anyone who might consider alternative therapies would be to start it as early as possible to give it a fighting chance.

All the best.

Yes, he would need to see the patient or the caregiver personally.

As an update, it is just shy of 18 months and my fathers condition is stable and he is in good health.

As an update,

Aside from the occassional bile duct infection arising from the stent he is doing well and recent blood reports have confirmed the same.

We have included the following 2 natural supplements to the abovementioned:

1) Lifetime, Noni Mangosteen Goji and Acai Blend

2) Lumina Cellfood

Additionally, we have stopped using DS Cancer research supplements.

Best of luck to all

Hi,

Thank you so much for sharing the information! It's worth trying anyway. I will try all of these. Is it ok if I miss one or two items? Should I do exactly as it's mentioned in your list?

Thank you so much for sharing again!

Sunny
