Hi Everyone,

Wanted to give an update on Annie's surgery yesterday.  Honestly, the worst part of this entire ordeal was her coming off the general anesthesia.  It was really too much for her and she stayed in the recovery for at least 5 hourd post surgery.  Her blood sugar was a bit high at over 250 prior to surgery so they needed to stabalize it before proceeding then after, the numbers went way way down to like 65-70 and they needed to bring that to normal levels.  I guess it just the type 2 diabetic in her raising havoc.

Her GI ran into some difficulty placing the stent in her bile duct via ERCP though, he could not implement the device. He said the original tumor which was 5cm at diagnosis and became scar tissue with no metabolic activity after fully responding to 10 months of chemotherapy, surrounded the area where he needed to enter and made it difficult to reach the spot where the stent would have been placed and that was it!  He indicated the bile duct shows no blockage and her liver is healthy and functioning normally and thinks we should just monitor closely for any changes to indicate otherwise. In the futurw, there is another option using interventional radiology to place the stent but he does not see the urgency in doing it now.  He recommends we just keep an eye on things.

We are happy, relieved and blessed because earlier in the day as Annie was prepping for the ERCP, her oncologist contacted us to let us know Annie's last lab work taken on Tuesday 4/16 came back with stable results, including her CA19-9 which had shown a slight increase from 38 to 45 a month ago and from 45-54 just two weeks ago.  As of 4/16 though, they are back to just below 38 and normal.

We are approaching 22 months post diagnosis and it now been almost 11 months with no treatments with the exception of Metformin for her diabetes.  Next month we will consult further with our team of physicians including a few interventional radiologists to further explore options for the stent if deemed needed.

Her GI released her yesterday saying "Annie can rest today and tomorrow then she can workout on Wednesday." God is Good!

We have scheduled the IR (Interventional Radiology) procedure to place Annie's stent in her bile duct tomorrow, Friday May 3, 2013.  It will be done at the hospital where I work and where her team of doctors are located as an outpatient.  Supposedly a relatively benign procedure that doesn't require general anesthesia which she never tolerates well.  Will keep you all updated as we move forward....

Hope every thing goes well for Annie tomorrow, it sounds much less complicated than an ERCP.

My thoughts and blessings are with you both   Sheann
