I have heard such bad stories about hospice. My husband was put on hospice this weekend. I have never met such a nice group of people in all my life.

As of this evening they told us the maximum amount of time he would make it would be 2 weeks and was doubtful it would last that long.

I am so greatful for all the help these people have given me.

thanks Linda

I have to say, I am thankful for the horror stories of hospice that I've read on this site.  Because of those stories, now I'm inclined to do LOTS of research and find good places if/when we ever need them.  :(  As you guys said, the good places exist - we just need to find them.

In case you are as in the dark about hospice as we were... in some states hospice is offered as home care where they will come to you on a scheduled basis and your loved one can remain at home. We didn't know this was how it is in California because where we lived prior hospice was an in-patient facilty. My husband and I were hesitant until we learned that. I guess different states offer different care options. I hope the info helps someone else as well.

We had hospice when mother passed away.  They were great and came into the home.  I remember the night she died, the nurse was there and was getting ready to leave and said to call when needed.  Well my son was sitting with her and he called us all back to the bedroom and we got there just as she took her last breathe.  The hospice nurse was still there and handled everything.

Now I am going to have to call hospice for my husband as he has terminal cancer.  I know how good hospice is.  This will be in-home, just like with mother.  I think all the stories people read about hospice being bad, is that people just don't understand how hospice works.  Yes, like in all walks of life, there are people that shouldn't be in that field of work, then it is up to you to request a change.  If you don't speak up, then nothing will change.
