Cat scan results

All, Today I met with the oncologist to review the results of the cat scan. The results show that everything is basically the same as the scan on June 12th. One of the spots on the liver showed that it has increased in size. Everything else was "stable" and has not changed. He has arranged for me to have a pet scan to see if the stable tumor on the pancries is dead tissue or allive. After the scan on nov. 1st I will meet with him again on Nov. 4th to determine what options are available. Option 1; everything that showed stable is now scar tissue and surgically go after the area on my liver and cut it out. Option 2; everything that showed stable is indeed still alive, attack by starting fulfurinox. Option 3; everything that showed stable is indeed alive and take gemzar only to keep me comfotable until the end. Option three will never happen. Bottom line for me is that a cat scan is pretty much a worthless test. Now I wait for another 2 weeks. Bryan

Dear Bryan,

Keep your chin up! I know you were hoping for AMAZING results, but stable is definitely a positive result as well.  You are such a go-getter.  You will continue to fight and show that C who is boss!  Deep breath, and back on the horse. We're all rooting for you!

Hey Bryan,

Didn't check the board just saw your post with results now! Good results!  Stable is good!!  The inconvenience of having to go back for a PET scan and waiting again must be frustrating......  Rich has them both done at the same time.  Think about the options when faced with them not now- worrying about the future is a waste of your positive energy!  And you are one of the most positive ones here!  Be well, keep inspiring people and for heaven's sake..keep fishing!

Blessings~ Rose and Rich

Bryan, Stable is good news. The pet scan would be the best test to see if it is scar tissue. Keep up the fight and think positive. You are an inspiration to us all. Praying for the best results. Kat

How have your CA19-9 values been?  Although I know the numbers may not be that helpful.  We always hope the CAT scans will tell us the story.  You have fight in you, keep up hope/faith and that is so important no matter what the stage.   If you haven't looked at your diet, consider it.  Sugars, how meats cooked, maybe all animal proteins might play a role in some of these.  Drinking, eating probably hurt matters too.  I had related ampullary cancer which MD Anderson and many others call a form of pancreatic although can have intestinal or pancreatic or other tissue types.  I researched diet and exercise for intestinal cancers and some studies showed benefits for things like colon cancer so I changed my lifestyle after surgery, radiation, and chemo.  I had 3 high risk features including aggressive differentiation so although my stage was early I wasn't going to feel too secure.  I think green tea was one of the few antioxidants I could have on chemo, maybe research if some mushroom extracts good vs bad because one of the pancreatic cancer lectures I attended in the past at my NCI hospital said studies with some that either helped chemo or made effects more tolerable.  Only ones I tried were after chemo was completed and after I added milk thistle for liver but you'd have to research if good/bad at this point.  It is used for hepatitis.   I knew treatment direction might include chemicals that help the chemo get to tumor or egfr....  I hope for you its good news and they will be daring even surgically.  best to you.
