burst of energy

My mom was put on a code pink yesterday by hospice, meaning she had about three days left, she was semi conscious , no food , no water  etc. Today she drank tons of water , had a small amount of food , was able to talk , watch tv . The hospice nurse and a friend who is a nurse both came to see her today and they both told us that this is normal for a person at the end , they said it is referred to as a burst of energy or a rally .  But she is still at the end.

Has anyone heard of this ? I was hysterical this morning , I don't think I can switch gears to many more times.

Unfortunately, my mother dad the burst. She passed two days later. Love her, hold her, spend time with her, tell her you love her. Prayers for you both. Sue

Dear Dharma,

Yes, unfortunately, this burst of energy is a well known phenomenon.  My mom also experienced it. After barely eating or drinking, she had some chicken etc. and we all thought that she might be getting better.  She died a week later.

I'm so sorry.  Like was said before-cherish this time together... be with her.  Thinking of you and reminiscing.

Hang in there.

Punky

Dear Dharmagirl,

The exact same thing happened to my beautiful daughter who passed away 5/30/13. She had such a wonderful day on Tuesday, finally eating, drinking and interacting with us, she went into decline on the next day, and passed away on the following day Thursday. This is a blessing, I was so happy. But I knew in my heart that I was losing the most important person in my entire life, and I suffer everyday over her loss. Wishing you love and prayers. Brenda
