I am a smoker for a very long time. I have a cough that is terrible and embarrassing. Had bout with pneumonia few months ago but the cough continues. My ribs and stomach hurt all the time due to the cough. My phlem is mixed with colors. Green, brown, and rust colored. I have a very hoarse voice most days. My dr did an X-ray that was fine so she put me on a nebulizer which does not help. I feel like my lungs are full. My cough is so bad I throw up daily from it. My family is very worried about my cough. I want a cat scan how can I tell my dr this? Has any one with cancer had the same symptoms?

My dad's symptoms were the same as yours and he did have lung cancer. He had quit smoking the year before, thank god. They took part of a lung lobe and he had radiation. The doctors Saud thank god he had quit smoking. Please tell me you quit smoking also? My mother was a smoker and died of lung cancer.

Lung cancer does not always show up on an x-ray, which is why the AMA is suggesting ct scans for smokers.  Your doctor should send you to a pulmonologist to be tested if you are still having problems.  Don't settle for doing nothing other than an inhaler.  Get to a lung doctor and demand a ct scan to find out what your problems are.  The reason lung cancer is not found usually in early stages is because there are no symptoms until it is late stage.  Please don't let this slide, get a ct scan and find out what the problem is.

Hello!

I am KimmieAnne and I am living with Stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer.

Tell your doctor that you want a CAT scan or a referral to a specialist.  If he will not do this for you, select another doctor.  The doctor works for you.

Please do not wait.  I smoked on and off all my life and had symptoms like yours during the year.  I was never diagnosed with lung cancer until my lung collapsed and I was hospitalized with a chest tube.

You are in my prayers.
