My mother was diagnosed 3 years ago in January and was given 3-6 months to live.  Her tumor is inoperable and we're now looking into IRA/Nanoknife.  We are looking at the following locations and would like to hear about others experience.

Dr. Kortz at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Co

Dr. Stephen Solomon at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY

Dr. Kevin Watkins at Stony Brook Medicine in Stony Brook, NY

Dr. Robert Martin at U of Louisville Healthcare in Louisville, KY

Thanks for your help!

This is a difficult question. We went to StonyBrook, had a lot of confidence in Dr. Watkins. We had "open" surgery.  10 days total  in hospital. Both Drs' Watkins and Dr. Martin have probably the most experience. I think Dr. Martin is the most agressive in his approach with Nanoknife as he does perform Nanoknife differently as regards metastatic disease. Our recurrence elsewhere was not StonyBrook approved but Dr. Martin and/or Interventional Radiologist who perform laparoscopic IRE were all willing..We were confident in our decision, would do it again. It can be "major" surgery so there may be other concerns ei, close to home and family. Dr. Martin requests 2 week stay after surgery I think. Sometimes just meeting the doctor first helps too!  Good Luck

Dr Kortz is wonderful, he has put together an awesome team. My Dad just had surgery and the nanoknife to kill the tumor. He is doing great. The staff on the 8th floor at Swedish medical are wonderful! All of Dr Kortz's patients go there from surgery till they leave. The Marriot has discounts for cancer patients And free transportation if you need it. Good Luck

Thanks for your reply. My mother is heading to Denver today.  I believe her procedure is schedule for this Friday.  My understanding is there will be many other doctors in attendance and they will be using my mother's case as a training opportunity.

I hope this procedure helps remove the tumor!

Thanks!

My name is Debbie as well, but I won't be with my mother.  I am presently working in India.  But, my younger sister, Becky will be with my mother and her name is Nina.  I will be talking with my mother my tomorrow and her tonight and I will let her know of the good response your father has received.

Can you tell me a little about your fathers case?

My mother was diagnosed almost 3.5 years ago.  She was given 3-6 months to live and has gone through several different treatments.  Her tumor shrank from the size of an apple to the size of a grape and now it is growing again.  She is unable to have it removed due its location and involvement of critical blood vessels.  We feel this is her best chance at more years to spend with her grandchildren.

I hope your father has many more years ahead of him.

Thank you for the information.

My Dad was diagnosed about a month ago with a 4.2 Cm tumor. They could not tell whether it was operable or not. We wanted as many options as possible that is why we chose Dr Kortz at Swedish Medical. During the operation to remove the tumor they found it was too involved with the vascular system to remove it so Dr Kortz used the nanoknife to kill it. The surgery was Friday, he is now on any liquids, probably solids by this Friday. So it looks like he will still be here when your Mom gets here so we will stop in and say hi.Dad is in room 8116.

Good Luck you all will be in our prayers.
