Don't Ignore That Freckle (AKA Vulvar Melanoma)

In Feb 13 I noticed this little innocent freckle on my inner labia (left).  I had no idea how long it might've been there...I didn't look at myself that thoroughly in the past so I really couldn't say.  It was not bothering me, there was no mass underneath, no itching, scaling, weird colors, shapes, smells or anything else so I decided not to worry about it unless it changed or became problematic.  I also noticed this purple/blue spot on the inside of my outer labia (right).  This spot was scary looking, almost like a bruise but under the skin some, not on the surface - pencil eraser sized.  It wasn't symptomatic though, just oddly colored, and no lump or tenderness.

Normally I go to the gyn every year but I moved and didn't find a new gyn until a little over a 1.5 yrs later which was in Aug 14.  I was concerned about the "blue lesion" as she called it and not really about the freckle but I mentioned it anyway, since I found them at the same time I thought it might be relevant.  She did a punch hole biopsy on the freckle...the lidocaine shot and recovery were horrible...I was in pain for weeks and my parts were swollen with a hole in them not to mention the fact that I blead for days afterwards.  In fact, the biopsy was so awful that I was angry at myself afterwards for even mentioning the freckle...all that pain and mental tragedy for no good reason or so I thought.

It is a vulva melanoma, something I never even heard of until the biopsy...something my gyn said was very rare but also very agressive.  I see the oncologist for the first time tomorrow and I'm so nervous I'm probably going to puke on him :(  I'm pretty sure he's going to say we need to cut it out and depending on how much they find, do lymph node tests...tests & surgeries...puke. I've been through so much medically since 2009 and now this...I'm 41 yrs old btw.

Since the biopsy I've been getting stabbing pain where the freckle is but except for 3 occasions, its really short lived (like 1 sec then gone...thank God).  Before I got the results, I assumed this was part of the biopsy healing process but I've been healed-up/hole closed for over a month now and its still happening.  Also, literally in the past week its grown ~ 3x's its original size???  Before I would describe it as a tiny little freckle...now I would describe it as a half inch line (it grew vertically & downwards).

Since I couldn't find much first hand info on the boards about this issue (some scares but not a lot of follow-up posts), I thought I'd share this experience as it unfolds. And more than anything I want you to tell your gyn about any pigmentation you might have down there regardless of how innocent it looks and even if it isn't bothering you!

Good news, it was all a misunderstanding at the docs office and it is just a mole!  I feel a bit stupid now but better stupid than the alternative.  God bless!!

i also have noticed on me a few of those freckles and/or the purple/blue spots. they havent grown, i was diagnosed with breast cancer in jan 2013 so it has been a rollercoaster ride since then. i have had 2 vulva biopsies done in the last 5 yrs and my dr just said its not cancer and not to worry. but now everything worries me. but over the last 6 months or so, it has become painful at the point of entry and on my labia during sex, it feels like a burning sensation there. so i am now concerned and know that i need to see my gynee but i am scared that it is going to be another cancer. and i am exhausted from the breast cancer that i keep putting this off. it is not an std or infection, or they would of noticed it when i had my hysterectomy in may, or at least i would think they would of. is there anything to cancer and vulva cancer and the burning sensation during sex??? any info would be helpful.  tk u:)

this is so strange because it’s about to be February 13th, same day you noticed your mole, and i randomly just found a mole on my inner left labia. same day and same spot as you...very random. i’ve never seen this mole before until tonight, i thought it was a bug bite at first.
