Has anyone had tear duct surgery??

I had a TT in 2008 for papillary cancer.  Ever since then my eyes have been tearing constantly.  It has become so bothersome that I decided that I needed the surgery.  I am having surgery next week on my tear ducts.  It will be through the nose.  He will use a balloon catheter and put stents in both eyes.  Has anyone had this type of procedure done.  Are the stents uncomfortable to have in or do you not really notice it.  What is the recovery time? I am a bit nervous about it, so any information would be great.

Thanks!

Yes, I had to have the tubes/stents inserted and sewn into the nostrils.  After 6 months, the tubes were removed.  It helped a lot with the tearing, but now my eyes have become dry and sometimes the tearing is thick and oily???   How did your procedure go?  It was more involved than I thought it would be.  Supposed to begin Restasis drops soon.  I believe there is a connection to thyroid disease, treatment or having no thyroid.  What did your opthalmalogist say?

Yes. After two years of constant tearing from both eyes, I had the surgeries two weeks apart. I believe, and have read, it is from the RAI treatment. No doctor ever mentioned this possibility. I think they should. I had the surgeries in 2012, done by a plastic ocular ophthalmologist. Scarring minimal on side of nose. One eye still tears, the other is fine. A lot more to tell you, but good luck. Don't be scared, it is easier than you think! BJ
