Husband Recently Diagnosed

I am 24 years old and pregnant with our first child and my 26 year old husband was just diagnosed with HPV positive squamous cell carcinoma that originated in the tonsil. It has moved to the right side of his neck with lymph node involvement but we are not sure to what extent. We just know that it has involved his lymh node on the right side and has not spread to the lungs or anywhere else in his body.

The tumor is about the size of a golfball and definitely noticeable. Otherwise he is a pretty healthy male. We would not have known if it weren't for the enlarged node on his neck that would not go down with antibiotics. We were told this this is stage 4 because of the lymph node involvement.

The doctors say that there is a really good prognosis because it is HPV positive and because he is so young and in good shape but anytime you hear the C word it is terrifying. I was in good spirits until people started telling me that with it being so large and a stage four that it cut his survival rate to 50 or 60%.

Any advice you have or any information would be greatly appreciated.

Jamie,  I know this is a very old thread and hope he has a good prognosis.   My 57 yr old brother has had the similiar experience.  Surgery and radiation.  But it has spread to his bones and is on pallative care w/Radiation and Chemo.  They say it is low percent that throat/tonsil HPV cancer would spread like that.   Is there any experience or treatments Jamie had that you can share.
