Adenocarcinoma (liver) with unknown primary

My name is Melissa, and my Mother has been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma on her liver.  She has several tumors, the largest being the size of a plum.  They say that they are metastatic tumors and they have not yet found the primary cancer.  She has had a lung x-ray, abdominal CT scan (which is how they found the tumors), mammogram, blood work, liver ultra sound, and a CT guided biopsy.  They are ordering a lung CT scan and a colonoscopy.  All of her bloodwork returned normal except for the CA-19-9 (2,200) and alpha-1-fetoprotein (21.5) tumor markers.  She had an appointment with an oncologist here yesterday and he has only given her 6 months to a year to live.  He said that there is no beating this, and that treatment with chemotherapy will only extend her life for a couple of months.  I REFUSE TO GIVE UP!  My sister passed away in 1995 of a rare illness and our family has been through the ringer.  I am holding onto my mom for as long as I can.  She is only 59, and the only symptoms she is really having are running a low grade fever, pain in the abdominal area, fatigue, and she does have an intermittent cough that has been present for months.  Where do you all suggest/who do you all suggest that I get her to for treatment?  I need cutting edge technology and knowledgeable physicians!  I have contacted Duke Cancer Center in NC and Cleveland Clinic and left messages, but no one has returned my call yet.
