Hi Sadsister -

You should change your name to Goodsister.  I spent a lot of time with my sister from diagnosis through treatment and I am so thankful for her.  She's the kick-your-butt sort, which was what I needed.  You're bro is lucky to have you.

I didn't have lung mets, but my doc mentioned them because I had nodes on my PET scan, and he said not to get too worried because there are treatments that can keep you alive for a long time.

Is there a plan in place for treating your brother and has he started yet?  My wife and I found that a little Xanax helped a lot in the diagnostic/ pre-treatment phase, and that once a treatment plan was in place we were more emotionally stable.  We were told that we would be "carried" through this period of our lives, and we were.  I wish you and you brother all the best, and there are lots of us here who are willing to lend an ear as things progress.  Peace - John

Hi Sadsister1

I am 4 years out and my radiologist told me that they keep watching the lungs-from past experience if cancer does come back that is the first place it will reemerge

I had tonsil cancer and was treated 2 years ago and last november had neck disection as a lump reoccured - then just 9 weeks later after the swelling of the neck went down we find a new lump slightly lower down on the neck - so 2nd reoccurance - this time they are telling me if its spread to lungs i have 6-9 months left but if not theres a chance to shrink the tumor and posssibly remove it with surgery - anyone else had something like this and survived or whats the cure rate?

Kevin

If 6-9 months sounds like your Doc needs to make a house payment.

From everything you have written, I would get a second or third opinion.

Sadsister, Have the doctors suggested a clinical trial for your brother? I've heard that proton beam therapy is being used for H&N reccurrences, but I don't know if that's regional recurrence or not and only a few clinics have the machine because it's so new. I've also heard that immunotherapy is being used for H&N recurrences. Again, I don't know any details, but this approach is thought to be the wave of the future and is currently being used for lung cancer patients. What has your brother's doctor recommended? Have you thought about geting a second opinion?

Slowlane, Congrats on five years! What is SBRT?

Kevin, your doc should be helping you and giving you hope, not the scaring the heck out of you. I recommend finding a new doc who can help guide you through this process without scaring the heck out of you. When I went through my cancer, getting a second opinion was the best thing I ever did and I will never regret it.

What is SBRT?

Stereotactic body radiation therapy.

Large doses of radiation, computer guided to pinpoint areas like brain etc.

I had a small marble sized tumor in my upper left lung and they fried it and an area about the size of a golf ball with SBRT about 8 months ago.....so far so good....I get CT'd again on the 22nd of this month.  22 Feb, 2016.  Slowlane

i had tonsil cancer then tonsil removed then chemo and rad - went 2 years and a lump in my neck - cancer near the tonsil area on my neck - had neck disection in november last year 2015 - after swelling went down - in january 3 months later a new lump about 1 inch lower on my neck and again its cancer - I am totally afraid now as a doctor said reoccurances like this usually go to the lungs and if so thats a death sentance of 9 months to live!...I am starting on new chemo next week - and have a pet scan next week to see if its spread - is it common to spread and am I incurable?....if the chemo shrinks it they said then I would have radiation and then possible second neck surgery to remove it again.....Im desperate for answers and people who have had something like this and been cured or lived longer than 9 months even if it does go to lungs?

My stage is Stage 3 T2 N2 M0
