Mark,

Unfortunately, you are still in the "Cooking" Stage where you feel the full effects of all the radiation treatments totaled up. This can take anywhere from 4-8 weeks before you start to slowly improve.

I was given Neurotin during my last few weeks of Radiation as the medicine helped with my nerve pain. I continued with it for a few weeks in the "Cooking" stage and weaned myself off of it slowly. Neurotin is used for people that had Shingles also. I'm just throwing this out there for you to know and maybe ask you Doctor about it.

Mark,

Well, no wonder you are feeling crumby.  You are still cooking, and will be for a while (a couple of weeks to a month probably).  So your symptoms, instead of getting better, are likely to get worse for a while longer.  Sorry!

The good news is that you are over the treatments themselves, so on the road to recovery.  The not-so-good news is that the road to recovery is a pretty long one.  Don't expect to feel better daily, but instead think of week to week or longer.

I'm sorry to be Debbie downer, but you need to stay on top of your symptoms still.  If you have pain, there are meds for that, and ditto depression and anxiety.  Many of us have been there before you.  But you will feel better with time, I promise!

In addition to throat cancer I have suffered from depression all my life. See a therapist, get the good drugs that are available, and do some talk therapy. It's a chronic but manageable illness.

Nice work.  The other day I realized I could put liquid lidocain on my mouth sores and made it possible to get down some pudding and a couple bites of mac n cheese.  I was very excited. 45 year old man, excited about eating a small squeeze packet of pudding....life sure has changed.

Mark,

Congratulations on the soup!  A word of caution about that sandwich, though.  It might be hard to eat bread due to dry mouth.  Make it a small bite!  (or dunk it in soup!).

Here's to happy eating!
