I am posting to give HOPE to all suffering from EC.  I had last posted before my husbands esophagectomy on 3/10/16.

Here is his success story...in brief:

12/2014 diagnosed with stage IV esophageal cancer with lymph node involvement...1-1/2 to 2 years to live

Jan/2015 started FOLFOX every two weeks...after 11 treatments stopped due to neuropathy

throughout year CT and PET scans all stable...no new growth, but none gone.

June/2015 started FOLFIRI every two weeks (thru 2/2016..18 treatments)

Jan/2016 had PET scan, endoscopy and CT scans....all clear no cancer shown...LIKE WOW!

Feb/2016 team decided to remove esophagus because Tom is young (53), healthy and lean

March 2016 had esophagectomy and lymph node removal

This week was told by surgeon and oncologist he is cancer free...no chemo needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

16 months have passed and this is a great day!

DON'T LOOSE HOPE...HE NEVER HAS!  Tom is his oncologist first success story for EC!

Hello

it is almost four years later and it has been awhile since I have been on here. I couldn't even remember my password etc so had to reregister... I used to go by wickedinns... had to come up with a new name....

Anyway....I was just wondering how you are all doing ? We are still here and still fighting. Hubby is now seventy pounds lighter but still hanging on and not doing too bad. He still has all the after effects of all the various treatments but other than that... we keep on keeping on...

I am starting radiation tomorrow, for pyriform sinus cancer, stage II maybe III by now. I wish more members would give their much needed advice!

It is a big gamble, as some people get through much better than others. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why certain people get through the "treatment" better than others.

Going through with the radiation, may save lives, although the future medical costs sound very daunting...

My husband and I wonder why the radiologist can't put a lead covering over the parts on the head  like the jawbone--that do not require radiation...Just a thought.

Glad you and husband are well!
