New diagnosis can anyone help with questions please ?

I have just been diagnosed with bladder cancer following a cystoscpy. I did see the offending areas. One was like many fingery tentacles waving about and the other was like a small red pimple. Anyway I am booked for a CT scan.

Q1 Will the CT scan be able to establish whether or not the tumour has gone outside the bladder ? If not what does it showb that the cystoscopy didn't ?

Q2 How quickly do the tumours grow ? I am worried that a four week delay in getting the CT scan results back (that's how long it takes in the UK) coupled with another 4-6 weeks before the tumor is removed will be too long and that I will be taking a risk leaving it so long. There has already been a delay of four months in diagnosis (there was no blood in the urine except for microscopic cells so it was treated as a UTI then prostatitis).

I would welcome any information on the above.

The ct will confirm if it has gone in to the muscle.  The turmors depending on grade and type can grow slow or fast, and that will be determined by the pathology of the tumor. Example mine is T1 and HG that means stage on highly aggressive. So far the BCG TREATMENT(which is immuno) is working. Although I did get a second opinion from ctca and was told I will not get chemo or radiation as long as it is in the bladder

A1: By CT scan, you mean a PET-CT. PET-CT should show if the tumors are present elsewhere in the body. Doesn't the pathology report saying anything regarding muscle invasiveness?

A2: This is something that I wondered when my father had cancer and never got a conclusive answer from anyone. It seems like this is a big unknown and impossible to determine. 4 week delay after the scan sounds ridiculous. In India, we get it the following day. But, 4 weeks sounds too long.

I bet your in good hands. Trust your doctors and get as many people praying for you as possible. I see a doctor Jonathan Rosenberg at Soan Kettering in NY, he is marvalous. I am two years past my diagnosis myself. See about a PET-CT scan, it wouldn't hurt to have one done.
